I'm going next Friday morning. I'm not terribly afraid of other people's opinions, whether it was good or not. I've found that doesn't really influence my feeling about a movie.
Let's continue to use spoiler tags for a bit though. Do we usually spoilerize for a week after a movie?
Bought my tickets today (my local theater finally put them on sale) for Friday and Saturday.
There's a lot of spoilers out there; they can't all be right. Not going to sweat what's real and what's not until I see the movie.
I have to wonder if media outlets have been given instructions not to ask Ford about his involvement in any future installments. It seems strange that no one has asked if he'll be in any future Star Wars films.
Lucas seems to have done quite well with dead Obi-Wan toys, not to mention dead Yoda, etc. I think the toys quip was just Ford trying to be funny 32 years ago.
Abrams' strength is that he often takes ideas and/or series from a bygone era and makes them relevant to the present. He did this with TV spy drama (Alias), an old spy series (Mission Impossible), an old sci-fi series (Star Trek), an adventure about young kids and aliens (Super 8, which could've...
I have the same concerns, and I hope characters are not used in a way that betray what's gone before and I don't want to see anyone killed off. I have my doubts.
EW has a nice interview with Harrison Ford about Han Solo, Indiana Jones and the Star Wars films:

I have no idea about the rumors of Luke going to the dark side are true (my suspicion is that they are not), but it would negate the growth of the character from the original trilogy. Indeed, the title of the last episode is Return of the Jedi! A fallen Luke would disregard that title.
I read the theory at the link above and I find it completely implausible. Despite the fact that I would hate to see the original trilogy be for naught if Luke turns to the dark side, I find the author's logic on why he thinks that will happen to be weak.
The official poster:

I found the credits most interesting. Ford has top billing, followed by Hamill and Fisher; Arndt still gets a writing credit.
I like the poster. What...
I'm fine with not having it in the movies. It's a new era of Star Wars films, and this reflects that.
That said, I wouldn't mind seeing a new Lucasfilm logo with new fanfare to go with it -- which would also mark a new era.
Supposedly, the new film will not have the Disney logo before the credits, only the Lucasfilm fanfare (much like Disney has done with its Marvel movies), according to Bob Iger in a Skype chat.

The thing missing from the prequels - and what I really hope the new movies will have - and which would have made a huge difference is stronger scripts - specifically, better motivations for the characters. We never really get the sense that Anakin and Padme are in love; they just are. We never...
I would hope that Kathleen Kennedy and the good folks at Lucasfilm said "We know you utilize lens flares as part of your style, but we're trying to create a unified look for these movies, so we'd rather not see them in this movie."
