HD-DVD Titles Announced for 4th Qtr Release-

No. Because the one thing that the Studios DO understand, is money. Once Paramount saw what a cash cow DVD was, they realized how wrong they were to not support it. So, by seeing their mistake with DVD, Paramount wants to be first in line for HD-DVD, so they can re-sale of their titles. Boy...

HD-DVD Titles Announced for 4th Qtr Release-

I see your point. But, I have to ask; Did you not do any research before you bought your TV? Like I said, this was a topic of discussion four years ago, right after I bought my Pioneer Elite, on another forum. When I bought my front projector last year, I made damn sure it had a DVI input, and...

HD-DVD Titles Announced for 4th Qtr Release-

So the question is; Are you going to feel "cheated" if you have to buy a newer HDTV with DVI/DHCP or HDMI/DHCP inputs, in order to take advantage of HD-DVD/Blu-Ray? Or, do you just accept that that's the risk you take, when you become an "early adopter" when investing in "bleeding edge" technology?

HD-DVD Titles Announced for 4th Qtr Release-

I have two HDTV's. A Pioneer Elite 58" RPTV, and a Sanyo FPTV. The Sanyo has a DVI input that is HDCP complient. So, I'll be okay there. The Pioneer only has component and RGB inputs for HD. Right after I bought the Pioneer, this subject came up (about 4 years ago). At the time, I was told that...

Ernest, I just find it odd that you're so resolute that Lion King was based on "Bambi". Yet the similarities between Kimba and "Simba", are far more striking. Did you actually read the article in the link I provided? Did you read where even the actors hired to do the voice overs were under the...

HD-DVD Titles Announced for 4th Qtr Release-

Oh. Well that's it then. Because YOU never heard of Kimba, then ALL of those people at Disney must not have ever heard of Kimba either. Like I said, I watched Kimba when I was kid. And I remember it. So, I don't think it's any kind of a stretch to think that at least ONE or MORE of the...

HD-DVD Titles Announced for 4th Qtr Release-

Yes. But you're totally dodging the evidence the Web Site shows. I noticed you didn't say anything about that in your "attempt to mis-direct" reply. Plus, how can the people at Disney say they never heard of Kimba? Excuse me?!?! They work in the animation field, and they're not aware of Original...

Actually, that's nothing new. I've always heard that Porn was the chief reason for the proliferation of the VCR. About a year ago, 60 Minutes did a piece on this subject, and in an interview with DirecTV, they said that without the profits from Porn, they wouldn't be able to stay in business...

HD-DVD Titles Announced for 4th Qtr Release-

High Def DVD won't "add" anything to the poor quality of the original print. Which IS an advantage. Adding "digital noise" to existing "analog" noise, only makes things worse. So, if the digital reproduction is "crisp and clean", then were just left with the quality (or lack there of) of the...

Er, who's "everyone"? From what I've read here, most people agree that we haven't even begun to scratched the surface of digitally exploiting the video quality of Film.

HD-DVD Titles Announced for 4th Qtr Release-

I mentioned this earlier. And I think that's the answer. Since the discs are physically the same size, they can make a player that can accomadate both formats. Most likely, a multi-format unit like this would be more expensive than a single format unit would be. But, not as expensive as buying...

If they did 1080i, wouldn't the player still have to do a progressive 3-2 pulldown to match 24fps with the 60Hz line frequency here in the U.S.? Thus, eliminating the "flicker" problem?

Yes. That's exactly who it was. When I knew him, he lived in Amarillo, Texas. He later moved to the West Coast, and became the editor of the magazine. One of the last times I actually talked to him, was right after "Alien 3" came out. I remember both of us just shaking our heads in disgust, and...

Completely. When I was growing up, a friend of mine's Dad was into 16mm Film. He had quite a library, including the original King Kong with Fay Wray. You sound just like him. He even authored a book about that particular King Kong film. He passed before DVD's came around. So, I don't really know...

I haven't heard. But, I think anyone that has more than two brain cells to rub together can agree that the source format needs to be 1080p. Even if the hardware has to play catch-up.

I don't think there's any chance to getting just one format at this point. It's way to far into the game. I believe the best we can all hope for, is a single unit that will play both formats. Just like the DVD units today that are capable of DVD, SACD, DVD-A, CD, etc.

DVDO makes an upgraded unit called the iScan HD+. Which is HDCP compliant. But, I'm confused on what EXACTLY it will do or not do. Here's a link to it's specs. Maybe someone that's a little more knowledgable can explain whether or not it could be used for HD-DVD on the older sets...

Although I see the room for continually improved video, I can't see something like 10.2 audio ever becoming mainstream. Let's face it, most people don't have the space for such a system. Plus, as we all know with 5.1 to 7.1 systems, the more channels, you have, the higher the cost gets just to...
