4"+ smartphones -- the market has spoken (and it says yes)

I've never seen it used personally. The most useful thing the ad pointed out to me was the "you don't have to touch the phone if your hands are dirty/greasy" feature.

A nicely barbed Samsung ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlXp41WwpOs

You're right. It is amusing, though, to think of something being said like "5 Android inches feels wrong and uncomfortable, but 5 Iphone inches feels great".

They'd also have to be willing to take a certain amount of ridicule for putting out a 5 inch screen, after claiming that 4 inches is "ideal".

Ron, No dig meant at all. People have different views about size depending on the device.

Yes, and there is no contradiction whatsoever between the two desires.

I'd say such "humbleness" is definitely preferable to a Jobsian "I will decide what's best, and try to convince people they should like it" arrogance. No matter how much companies may try to think otherwise, in a market economy, the consumer really is sovereign.

That's fine, but I was responding to Dave's post about Apple's market share (he seemed to think it was of some importance). And large market share does indicate that a lot of people approve of a product, else the share wouldn't be so large.

That was last year. This year, they've lost ground again. http://www.droid-life.com/2012/05/07/androids-market-share-balloons-to-61-in-the-u-s-during-q1-ios-drops-to-29/

The only response I care about is that Android has provided me (and many millions of others) with a phone that provides the needs the Iphone is incapable of filling, and leaves me wanting nothing the Iphone has. That's the virtue of of market diversity.

Profits, yes. Market share, not really. It's gotten tighter lately (Android had a whopping 60-26 lead in 3rd quarter 2011), but it remains to be seen what happens to the post holiday numbers. http://gigaom.com/2012/01/09/iphone-breathing-down-the-neck-of-android-in-u-s/

So someone who says he's always hated Android says negative things about it. What a shocker that is!

It could also be characterized as Uniformity vs. Choice.
