LAWRENCE OF ARABIA at NYC's Ziegfeld Theater in September!

Evan, I would add to your list: a thank you to Columbia for spending a small fortune on re-timing the printing negative, making prints at $30,000 per, and to Columbia's Grover Crisp for repping the studio on all of the extremely tedious lab work. Then of course Michael Schlesinger for...

LAWRENCE OF ARABIA at NYC's Ziegfeld Theater in September!

Lawrence (and his camel) will arrive at San Francisco's classic Castro Theatre on Friday. The presentation there will be up to their normal superb standards. He arrives Wednesday at New York's Ziegfeld and Seattle's Cinerama. D.C., Detroit, Atlanta and other cities to follow. RAH

LAWRENCE OF ARABIA at NYC's Ziegfeld Theater in September!

My thanks to Rob Tomlin for his additional comments -- and one more for you. The second part of Loa was designed to bring the audience down along with Lawrence... right down to the details of costumes. Phillis Dalton, the brilliant costume designer, created Lawrence's white robes (all...

LAWRENCE OF ARABIA at NYC's Ziegfeld Theater in September!

Andrew -- Your comments on LoA seem to synchornize with the textures and storyline of the two parts of the film. While the first part (135 minutes) follows Lawrence's triumphant rise from military cartographer to larger than life desert hero, the second part tracks his betrayal by the...

LAWRENCE OF ARABIA at NYC's Ziegfeld Theater in September!

Zach K on color: What you're seeing as the difference between "modern" and "classic Technicolor" (sic) films is neither the age of the film nor the photographic process, but rather, a high speed, one-lite dupe as opposed to a timed print made at slow/normal printing speeds. RAH

There is distortion on any curved screen, which is made all the more obvious by horizontal planes (plains) within the image. The up-side is a rather unique and more encompassing presentation. RAH

Courtesy of Columbia, Lawrence's camel is packed and heading for Atlanta... in 70mm. RAH

LAWRENCE OF ARABIA at NYC's Ziegfeld Theater in September!

The print that I viewed last week had a tendency leaning toward yellow, but nothing that would be noticed by a general audience. Several shots and sequences needed density modification, but overall the print was glorious. Columbia's Grover Crisp and CFI/Technicolor have been working extremely...

LAWRENCE OF ARABIA at NYC's Ziegfeld Theater in September!

You might wish to check with the theatres, but I believe that NY and LA have been put off until the 25th at the request of Paramount, as they didn't want two desert pictures in theatres at the same time... The public is easily confused apparently. The film will go Minneapolis in 70mm. I...
