There is no “bad blood” from these quarters. I believe that there’s a place for all groups and individuals that you call the “kickstarter boys.” This is not a single group or individual, but what they have in common is that it allows them to concurrently fund their passion, give them income, and...

The most viable way to determine if a 3D production has real quality to it is to view in 2D, and actually watch the film, paying attention to screenplay, acting, and all the tech attributes mit out the circus.

A film like Dangerous Mission is something that I would NOT approve for restoration if the request hit my desk. Especially in the current economy. Especially at a a studio. Especially if I desired to keep my job at said studio. We’ve been discussing bad 3D films for the simple sake of 3D and...

You seem to be one of the Uber-fans and I can appreciate that. I spent some time exploring - is it Bronson Cave? - and could not get the space suit image out of my head. It does seem that the major quality productions have been restored and released. I know there’s a desire among fans to get...

That‘s been my take and I lived through them. Not to try to take pleasure away from 3D lovers, but I just wish there were some very high quality films out there. So many seem like bargain basement B pictures or less. And then of course, was it the ‘70s? 3D discovered the female breast and gave...

Of those “golden age” productions what is the HTF consensus as to how many are worthy quality aside from simply being in 3D?

Easy to convert them. May not be the same as true 3D, but someone might give a sequence a try, just for fun. There’s probably a $1.99 app for the iPad. Just capture it right off your flat panel. A bit of stabilization, and you’re home.

But he was also monocular. I met Mr. De Toth years ago at a screening and asked him about directing a 3D film with one eye. He smiled and said that his DP had it covered. Just noticed that this is post number 16,000. And it only took 23 years.

Going along with the old saying, “Everything comes in twos,” I was contacted by two congresswomen yesterday relevant to my comments here regarding Intermission breaks in films and 3D. I’ll not mention them, but can say that they come from both sides of the aisle. The first involved the concept...

It’s going to be a short list of very high-end restored product this year. I’d agree that this is on that list. Probably don’t need a Best of the Best. Decades ago my partner had gone to (as I recall) The Sinking Creek Film Festival. He told me about the film winning Best xxx. The filmmaker...

Closest 3D I've seen to this from the '50s are the WB/M-G-M MPI titles, taking into consideration the inherent problems of WarnerColor.

Agree wholeheartedly re the Raw Deal trailer, or Any unskippable trailer. Per the Intermission tag, they were a solution to a problem that did not exist outside of theaters with only a single pair of machines. They are in no way essential to the program, are only used as an unnecessary mirror...

Understood. And thank you. Let me be clear. I had absolutely nothing to do with the UCLA/Roundabout restoration. Merely bouncing a point off the comment that I saw. Nor would my involvement have improved the final product. As far as correcting errors, there are several considerations. The...

Someone just pointed me to an older thread over at that other site regarding I, The Jury, and a comment made that if the forthcoming Classic Flix 3D release wasn't perfect it would be the fault of Mr. MacQueen and yours truly. As the release has now been brilliantly reviewed, on behalf of Mr...

Another non-mystery. Since the entire restoration process was 4k, why not offer it to customers in a 4k 2D version as what I would consider an extra. Like virtually all films of the era, it’s 2k in a 4k bucket, but it’s included nonetheless, and it’s not an inexpensive extra. To my eye, it’s...

Thank you. I do my best to remain fair, accurate, and have a bit of fun along the way. Toward full disclosure, while I receive review copies on some product, I always make it known with publishers that when they are unable to accommodate, and I need to purchase, it has zero affect on my words...

You’re always respectful and a gentleman. I believe Malcolm may have been referencing a “discussion” started in the Jekyll thread that began with unpleasantries and went downhill from there. It was removed and I’ll not comment further. Shortly thereafter I viewed Jury and Diamond back to back...

Full disclosure. I'm not an expert in the world of 3D. I grew up with it as a glasses-wearing child which was problematic. There were a few that were interesting, but in most cases, they were akin to a circus act for me. "See the incredible 3D effects!" I grew up with House of Wax, The Maze...
