David, there will indeed be episodes of Justice League: Unlimited that will be confusing if you have not seen some of the episodes of the first two seasons of Justice League. All of Bruce Timm's superhero productions have an underlying continuity throughout.

There would be no panning nor scanning. The safe areas would be eliminated in an anamorphic transfer, and those without anamorphic displays would get a letterboxed image.

If the producer's preferred aspect ratio for season one of Justice League is widescreen, then that is how it should be released. This is the way I saw the program on the Cartoon Network, and an anamorphic release would be greatly appreciated by myself and others with 16x9 monitors.
