It would be best serve if you take that chip off your shoulder as nobody said anything about your responding posts. My post was meant to get this thread back on topic after everybody had a chance to express their opinion on that off-topic issue. As far as not being sure about what you're doing...
John,
I understand your problem living in Europe and the paranoia of Fox and Disney, but I've been buying a lot of Region 2 BRDs like Great Expectations, Zulu, Terminator 2, The Eagle has Landed, Black Narcissus, The Seventh Seal and Capricorn One and playing them on my unmodded players...
You don't have to take my word on this, but titles like "Casablanca", "The Searchers" and "The Third Man" look so much better in high definition than they do on SD DVD. The first time I watched "Casablanca" on HD DVD, I had tears coming out of my eyes and it was like watching it brand new all...
I've been campaigning for a price adjustment for over a year now. These studios are hard-headed. I think Warner and Sony understands it, but the others like Fox and Disney don't get it that titles like Sleeping Beauty and various comedies are not selling as they hope is because the pricing is...
Yet, there were some in the industry in which their forecast was more realistic and less than a billion. I can't wait until next month, when the final 2008 sales numbers come out.
Crawdaddy
One more thing about earlier sales forecasts. I think they were too optimistic in those forecasts because they were formulated on the belief that this consumer economy we had in this country will continue to thrive in which people will buy things on credit and worry about paying off that credit...
I don't know how the economy is doing where you live, but right now this country is in a deep recession and considering what's happening, blu-ray sales are doing a lot better than just about every other discretionary spending items.
I understand there is a certain segment of people that like...
Sales figures suggest otherwise.
Sure, just about all product sales are down this year except what essentials, families are buying at their local Wal-Marts or similar retailers. However, Blu-ray sales isn't one of those products.
Here are some articles that show sales forecasts have been...
Gary, In your Frank Sinatra boxset compairson which Bette Davis and Gangster boxsets you were referring to in which Warner used the same transfers as in previous releases? I knew they did so in the first Bette Davis boxset, but didn't notice that in Volume 3. Crawdaddy
What do you mean most people don't like this film? Most people I know really enjoy this film for what it is which is pure entertainment. It's not in the class of Vertigo, Psycho or a few other Hitchcock films, but it's still a pretty good film to me.
Gary,
As I noted when the HD DVD was released, "Casablanca" remains one of the most impressive video presentations of the 130 discs I own among these new formats. I even did an "A" versus "B" comparison. I used HDMI connections with the Oppo 970 dvd player outputting the SD DVD version of...
That may be true which means the reason why Paramount is able to release such a great looking dvd is because film elements are still in the Paramount's possession and not Universal because it was a Wallis production. Crawdaddy
I think it's because it was a film made by Hal Wallis's production company similar to Sorry, Wrong Number another pre-1949 film that still belongs to Paramount. Just about all of his Paramount films are still controlled by Paramount.
There isn't any need for anybody to get angry in this thread. There is a difference in opinion, that's it. Let's all of us talk about the issue at hand and not about perceived personal emotions. Crawdaddy
Such expressed opinions are the backbone of the HTF.;) We have been down this same road so often including the latest Ben-Hur release, it should be old hat to most of us. At times, you just have to agree to disagree and move on. I'm also interested in getting my hands on this dvd release...
How is the dvd presentation of Men in War? Never mind, I just read your comment again about it being excellent. Now, how can I navigate that site because I don't understand a word in French?
It was brought up at our last Warner Chat, with no plans for release. Because of the quality of the film, I think we need to make sure this title stays in front of Warner and deserves mention again during our next chat sometime in early 2005. Crawdaddy
