I don't think he knows anything. I think he was saying this given the fact that Lana had just told him about her dream and that he experienced the magic episode just a week before. So I think he has become (rightfully) suspicious of things. RG

I don't remember who they said it was supposed to be, either. But the tatoo on Lana is the same symbol that was on the 'shield' the carving was carrying. The shield had the same shape as the Superman 'S' crest. RG
