AMEN!! :D :emoji_thumbsup: I'm glad this ugly war is finally over. With no more worries about competing formats, the Blu-ray Disc Association can now concentrate on efforts to lower the cost of players (so everybody who's bought a widescreen TV set with HDMI inputs will more likely buy a...

I think we should not get into arguments about AVC versus VC-1 video encoding on the Blu-ray format from now on, since most Blu-ray players support decoding both formats. After all, Dolby Digital and DTS audio encoding pretty much co-exist reasonably peacefully despite competing against each...

It's not so far-fetched--even Microsoft back at CES this year admitted they could offer an external Blu-ray player drive for the Xbox 360 if the market wants it. I wouldn't be surprised that Microsoft does offer such a drive by June-July 2008 time frame.

Now that a number of companies have started to ship new Blu-ray console player chipsets that will dramatically reduce the cost of console players, I expect possibly as early as September 2008 Profile 1.1 players dropping under US$200 and Profile 2.0 players dropping under US$250; these price...

Let's face it folks. HD-DVD will soon be phased out. The combination of Best Buy and Wal-Mart retail chains (THE two largest "brick and mortar" retailers in terms of video software) going Blu-Ray exclusively by this summer is one of two final blows that will finish off the HD-DVD format. The...

After reading much of this message thread, a couple of comments: 1) How good is upconversion from DVD 480p resolution to 720p/1080i/1080p? I'm sure that a properly mastered DVD such as most Pixar movies will look GREAT upconverted to a higher resolution and shown on a good non-CRT...
