OK, here's what should be the final word on the framing issue with Kiss Me Kate. I solicited it for publication Tuesday (4/29/03) in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, but have decided to post it verbatim here: From Ned Price, Vice President of Technical Operations at Warner Home Video:

DVDLaser.com has an archived review of the letterboxed laserdisc (which replaced a full-screen LD) that says: "True, the new version is letterboxed, with an aspect ratio of about 1.8:1, but the letterboxing adds just a smidgen to the side and lops plenty off the top and bottom in exchange."...
