Actually, while I do recognize that there are problems with it, I've decided to break down and buy the DVD. I found a cheap copy of the 2 disc set, so I figure I'll get it. I can still enjoy the story and the performances. If it plays here in the 70mm reissue, I'll still go see it.
[SIZE=2]Robert,
Are you saying that it would be more appropriate to present these films in 1.37:1 then?
What about the Movietone thing? I have been told that City Lights for example was composed for that ratio (ie. narrower than 1.37:1), but I don't know how accurate that is.
Patrick,
I'd be interested to hear your definition of "lopsided."
I have both Dracula and All Quiet on the Western Front on DVD. I never noticed anything that appeared way off. But I could have easily missed it.
I wonder if Frankenstein is also one of these as I noticed the credits on...
I'm glad to know that Atlantic City bears the RAH stamp of approval. I bought the DVD when it came out and it was my first ever viewing of the film. Good to know that I got a fairly accurate presentation.
And this is the reason why I still haven't seen Lawrence of Arabia. :angry:
But what...
