Mike, the Howdy Doody show probably looks exactly like you'd expect. But they really aren't that messy looking. Time has taken away the sharp detail, the prints certainly leave a lot to be desired. BUt I would've be disappointed if I paid $4 or 5 for these instead of only a dollar...
