Whew! Just finished a week-long Hogwarts crash course of re-visiting the first three Harry Potter pics before seeing Goblet yesterday night at midnight. Geebus, these movies are gonna be wicked terrif in hi def with uncompressed audio! "Mischief managed," -p
Warner is taking the PSP plunge. Dukes Of Hazzard on Dec. 6 (such an auspicious new format debut: "I believe something has bumped up into my undercarriage."). Batman Begins (!!), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Constantine, House Of Wax, Enter the Dragon, The Matrix and that p.o.s. T3 on Dec...
Jim: We can't get too excited about Will Smith and Mulder & Scully in hi def yet. It remains to be seen whether any of those titles slated for release in Japan will street in the U.S. -p
Have you seen Capote yet Peter? There's a terrif scene in which PSH admonishes Perry Smith for intimating that the former doesn't know what the word "exacerbates" means. I know what "vindicate" means, Peter. What release announcement are you referring to? Link please? -p
"[V]indicated"? LOL--CSO strikes again. I think we need to see a BD release slate--and, indeed, maybe some product--before anyone polishes their laurels too proudly. I'm sure you're dismissing it as oh-so-much posturing, Peter, but I am interested in what--if anything--may come of Warner's...
What with the Warner announcement of Blu-ray support, it's going to be very interesting to see which of their (and Par's) first HD DVD slate turn up on their first Blu-ray slate if it indeed comes to that. And I sure wish they'd hurry up with those announcements . . . -p
Well, actually G.E. I still wanna know exactly what those Frenchies plan to do with music releases on Blu-ray. UMG released more DVD-As and SA-CDs than any other major label. NO ONE else here is vexed about whether to buy Batman Begins in 2 weeks?? -p
With the small but significant caveat that Universal Music Group and Universal Studios now have different owners and the former's optical media format choices have little to do with the latter's . . . -p
I didn't get any response or colloquy on the matter after my posting this in what could be called the pre-release, pre-HTF review Batman Begins thread. Bless their hearts, I think many are either blithely unaware of hi def imminence or are not taking a longer view on the issue of whether to buy...
Yes, Chief Smurf Officer. :D What with U supposedly having reduced their slate from 16 to 12 titles (read: likely having pushed the entire HD DVD slate into '06), I went ahead and used Wherehouse.com trade-in credit to get the The Thing: CE for "free" ($9.99). I've of course kvetched herein...
That's kinda "old" news now, Jesse. If you haven't, catch up with Sweeting's more recent columns (all available at the site; particularly seek out "'Management' Crisis" from the August 29 issue and "Encryption Keepers" from the September 5 issue). In addition to there obviously being some...
If the "HDMI hysteria" and HDCP speculation must spill over into this thread from that other one (we all know which it is: almost all of us are participants), then I gotta 'counter' with what I hope(d) will/would remain the focus here: HD DVD title speculation! The latest thing I'm needlessly...
Quote: It's looking more and more likely that Sony will drop Blu-Ray from the PS3 - as the price of the console is much too high. Marc, I'm curious as to the source of your 411 on this or if you're speculating. Although his source(s) is/are not entirely clear either for the info he's...
Another rumination re Batman Begins: it is the second biggest (in terms of gross and profile) 2005 theatrical release that has already been announced for HD DVD by the format's biggest supporter (#1 being Charlie). It's going to be very interesting to see whether we get an announcement of HD...
Saw it at Comic-Con last weekend and dug it even more upon second viewing this weekend--The Island is another title that would mos def be amongst the two dozen others already announced that I'd get an HD DVD version of sooner rather than later. For the sake of this pic (and Gladiator, Road To...
Some interesting titles in common between the announced HD DVD slates of, on the one hand, what Warner is releasing on Mini DVD and, on the other, what Universal and Par have already released or have announced for release soon on UMD for PSP. As it becomes more likely that we won't get all of...
Interesting random observation: two of the five DVDs I got for free as part of the Toshiba/Warner Bros./The Good Guys promotion back in 1998 (buy a Tosh at GGs and get 5 WB DVDs for free) are also skedded to be amongst Warner's first HD DVD releases. Both pics--U.S. Marshals and Eraser--are also...
I was quite taken with Batman Begins, esp. the last hour or so. Sure got me thinking of a day-and-date HD DVD as a delicious Xmas gift for myself . . . ;) -p
Hmmm. So much for at least a simultaneous announcement of day-and-date Million Dollar and Constantine. Mike, Britton et al.:
I'd say "may mean" instead of "probably means"; we just don't know right now. Wisely IMO, the HD DVD camp has said that they intend to move forward with their release...
Hmmmm. Here's hoping that the absence of SD announcements so far for Alexander, Constantine and Million Dollar Baby--all recent theatrical titles that Warner has announced for HD DVD--means they they're planning on day-and-date SD and HD releases . . . -p
