Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it's no secret that every studio would prefer downloads for better control of their content and even now are using and perfecting the lossless audio codecs of Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD MA, which are desperately needed as compression tools along with video codecs...
I don't agree with the above.:P IMHO, a physical, portable disc with all the HD information for one movie and a case with "artwork" for storage, will always be my preference instead of downloads. Paul
Yes, I believe your right. Should have made it clearer that my concern was not about lossy here, but about lossless 5.1 DTS-HD MA backwards compatibility as Dolby TrueHD has. Paul
Can't find anywhere - an explanation of how DTS-HD MA is 5.1 backwards compatible like Dolby TrueHD is, but I've found Sanjay's posting history to be very reliable. Paul
Thanks for the heads-up David, I put out this kind of scenario speculation of the possibility about Paramount - Toshiba contract problems here back on February 20, Post #3252 and two posts later it was stated that: "No, Toshiba has released them from the contract" and there was no...
Know what you mean, but I believe all titles that have been or announced for release on HD DVD will never be clear of the "transition clutter" by being authored with HD DVD's capacity in mind and because of cost, will not be revisited any time soon for the best Blu-ray picture quality that could...
I'm asking if there is potential for an upgrade in specifications for double streaming 1080P video for 3D movies.;) Don't believe it will play on current BD players or viewed in IMAX-3D-style on current displays.:frowning: Paul
David, For clarification purposes when you speak of 4K, that would be for digital transfers of 35mm film? Per Robert Harris on the the "Warner to release Ben-Hur on Blu-ray in 2009" thread Post #36:
Paul
Anyone speculating why Paramount hasn't announced an imminent Blu-ray software change? Could it be because Toshiba will not release Paramount from their contract, holding their last card for exclusive-product-demand, until maybe Toshiba sells their last HD DVD player or their...
My apologies to both you and bigluigi! Man I'm feeling old! (57);) That's why I like the quote button and use it often as an option as my reply choice, because it automatically puts the name of the person quoted and I don't get as confused as to who said what.:D Sorry, I will try to...
Doug, Didn't mention "Betamax recorder, I said "Beta scan" recorder. This was available in 1968. I know, because I had one. It had half inch tape, two hour reel playing time, (not cassettes) and recorded only in black and white. Beta was the form the tape path took when wrapped half around...
Agreed!:emoji_thumbsup: Taking a side in the format war and it doesn't matter which side, makes one vulnerable to the opinions and accusations of the other side. Mr. Hunt's professionalism is admired. Paul
Beta making lots of money? Having an interest in video recording technology, before the "cassette", as early as 1968, & 1969, I owned and used, both the Ampex "Alpha scan" technology and the Sony "Beta scan" recorder, and as memory serves, when blank Beta cassettes became available , they were...
:rolleyes As an HTF member and a format neutral enthusiast, I just don't see IMHO, the constant put down of Bill Hunt as a Blu-ray supporter, by some on this thread. Yes, Bill Hunt is a self-proclaimed Blu-ray enthusiast and professionally uses that slant when stating his opinion. IMO...
Seems logical to me. He probably would demand that ALL studios be neutral, if he was "format neutral", but where would it get him? Demanding doesn't get you or me anywhere! Most Studio's picked sides on day one, giving consumers an idea which format, if any, they should best invest their...
:rolleyes
This is really getting interesting.;) This tells me that Toshiba and Microsoft feel a great need to get this war ended before the Christmas season is over and that Paramount/Dreamworks wasn't enough. Also, I wonder if the BD+ option will keep Fox and Disney with Blu-ray if money...
Universal's president, Craig Kornblau states according to this article: Universal's Kornblau Wants Format War to Continue
That sounds like a NO to the coexistance of both formats from Kornblau (Universal) to me. Paul
