If Warners continues to sell this disc with the botched transfer, aware that it is labeled as OAR when they now know it is not, isn't that consumer fraud?
In that case, I'm eager to hear what Warners has to say to customers about the framing on the dvd now. What I'm seeing doesn't square with their statement that the dvd represents the way that an original print would have looked when projected. Hopefully they will take another look, figure...
Roland, I don't know how the 3D was achieved on the clip you have, but in any event it's a safe bet it wasn't originally framed/presented as you have it.
Mr. Harris, thank you for posting these. Thanks to Bill Hunt as well. Just so I understand: these are from an original Right Eye print from '53? I extracted a couple of the frames you posted from "Tom Dick or Harry" (the third strip) and put them alongside the corresponding screengrabs...
Something crossed my mind about the dvd transfer. It's easy to believe that Warners, in good faith, recreated the framing from something they believe to be a reference print that isn't. If this is the case, what in the world *is* that print that they used? It's been noted in this thread...
Again, thanks to Mr. Harris for taking the time; I'm very eager to see tomorrow's posting. Ted, I'm glad you did these particular captures. I look at the trailer on the dvd and the compositions look very pleasing - centered, and with enough headroom to allow for mattes. The corresponding...
Despite the comments by the esteemed Mr. Harris, I am still confused. Bear with me. The print that was released in 3D was Academy ratio, but I can't believe it could have been framed the way that the dvd is, because of the way that dancers have their arms or legs trimmed off the side of the...
The image on the dvd *is* reframed from the full frame, and Warners says that how it is supposed to be (according to a revision of the review by DVD Savant that I linked to earlier)
But what I don't get, guys, is if the Academy ratio prints of the film that were screened initially were practically the full frame. 1.37:1 is so close to Academy ratio that I would assume they were, but that's clearly not what is on view on this dvd.
I'm very interested in how this turns out. I don't own the LD and had only seen the movie once before, but I watched Kiss Me Kate tonight (which I found very entertaining, btw) before seeing this thread and thought the framing often looked very tight. For all I know it could be correct, but I...
