I think context plays a part in a person's reaction. Ordonez obviously knew he hit it out of the park and thus put his team into the World Series. He was momentarily stunned, thus his reaction. Cut him some slack. I don't think he was trying to show up the A's.
Good pitching showed up and clamped down on all those Yankee bats. Will Joe Torre be back? Will Yankees finally decide to develop pitching in their farm systems, or be content to try and buy high-priced, but pretty-close-to-over-the-hill pitchers?
The Braves exact a little revenge by bouncing the Astros out of the playoff hunt after the Astros did the same to them in 2004 and 2005 playoff series.
I suppose the Braves are relishing their role as spoiler for the Astros given that 18-inning playoff game last season that put an end to their 2005 season.
The Astros run is impressive, winning 9 straight to close the gap to a half game with 3 or 4 to play. St. Louis might have to make up a game with the Giants if they end up tied with the Astros in wins or losses at the end of Sunday.
I chuckle when the Braves broadcasting team thinks the Braves are going to run the table on their last 12 games, and perhaps make the wildcard after all. That's some optimism, for sure. I guess the Braves Black number is 7 (any combination of 7 losses by the Braves or wins by the wildcard...
Welcome to the pain of the Braves in the early season (we got too deep in the hole before the GM decided to bring in some bullpen help - too little too late).
I was pretty amazed that Matt Diaz tied the consecutive hits record (10) in his rookie season. And kudos to Chipper for a 3-homer game last night. Too bad he didn't save a couple for tonight's game. :)
Just scored a ticket to see the Red Sox at the Ted tonight! Huddy's pitching for the Braves, and he's are only consistent starter at the moment. I'll be taking my camera, so I'll share some pix soon.
At the rate Maddux is picking up wins, he might have 15 wins by the All-Star break, and it's too bad he didn't pick up 15 wins last season to keep his 15-win season streak alive.
Andruw only had 3 homers in all of April last season, he's definitely started fast out of the gate, let's hope he stays healthy and productive for the entire season.
I'm not sure if I will be able to handle the Braves games if they are going to be all 1-run games, like they were against the Dodgers, but at least they took 2 out of 3 after escaping with a 9-8 win tonight.
