Well, Carell said that he stopped himself from watching the BBC version because he was afraid of simply doing an impersonation of Gervais' Brent, but Carell has shown that he simply doesn't know what to do with Michael Scott, and plays him so broadly and is so unbelievable as a human being.

Some parts were funny, the game itself, but the up-close dialogue is still too stiff and not as funny.

Dwight's a freak. Oh, the blonde dye job was okay, but didn't quite make me bust a gut.

Still not loving it. Carell makes my teeth grind at times watching him trying to be loved, but it's too painful at times. The cat-n-mouse games between Tim, Dwight and Pam is almost getting there, but Pam's acting doesn't quite play right to me so far.

There's some raunchy material on the BBC version that I doubt would ever see the light of day on the US version.

This episode culled bits from the BBC version (like Dwight fighting for an office, even if it's really just a workspace). I only laughed about 22 minutes into the episode, when the 'inverted penis' was mentioned as an ailment. Otherwise, I'm still not really feeling it for this show.

I would suggest that if you are happy with the US version of this show (and haven't seen the BBC version), then don't watch the BBC version because it might just make you re-evaluate your assessment of the US version.

The problem with Michael Scott is that he's as subtle as a bull in a china shop. Brent was usually cognizant of the offense, and the fun was watching him try to dig himself out of the hole his mouth dug for him.

I didn't like the mish-mash of bits borrowed from different episodes on the BBC version, they just didn't mesh well. I think they need to stop making it oh-so-apparent of Jim's crush on Pam, subtlety would go a long way here. Michael still comes across as a caricature, and not a real person.

Steve Carell was a *caricature* as Michael Scott. Ricky Gervais was a *character* as David Brent. I hope the subtle differences aren't lost on Carell in subsequent episodes.

For now, from what I've read, 5-6 episodes were shot, and it the ratings are good, the show could come back in the fall.

I didn't like the British pilot episode either, but the subsequent episode caught a foothold and had me LOL a lot. Once I 'got' the David Brent character in later characters, everything clicked for me. Let's hope the Michael Scott character can make that turn as well.

The rest of the US version are reported to be new scripts, not re-telling of the British version. The pilot was the only one that borrowed quite a bit from the British pilot episode. NBC didn't want another round of "Coupling" on their hands from 2 seasons ago.

I don't know if America will get this show as-is, but I'll see how the "new" episodes pan out. This pilot did feel stiff, though. Loved the use of jello.
