Important information, for sure.
But how much more expense would there incurred, when addressing the restoration of just17 more minutes?
Looking forward to your reply.
I will join you on this campaign.
As a matter of fact, I would double-dip for "The Sand Pebbles" on BD; but only if the original and much documented running time of 196 minutes were reinstated.
It doesn't make any sense as to why FOX had previously offered a complete 196 minutes version of "The...
I wonder how difficult it would be for FOX to obtain the 1956 West German film entitled "Die Trapp-Familie"?
Wikipedia describes this film as a comedy-drama, based on Maria's memoirs.
Additionally, this aforementioned film had spawned a sequel entitled "The Trapp Family in America"
What a...
Sometimes I wonder if Robert Wise was mostly drawn to projects that were dominated by the letter "S".
Let's see, we've got "West Side Story", "The Sound of Music", "The Sand Pebbles" and "Star!"; all in Seventy.
Think its a coincidence, eh?
Then throw in "Star Trek" and consider how "Citizen" is...
I doubt that FOX will misread you, but just in case;
it's "Star!" that "definitely demands a bluray release"; rather than "Those Were The Days". Agreed?
Meanwhile, the BD of "The Sand Pebbles" looks fantastic. When you speak of a BD of the original roadshow version, what content could I be...
This lesson reminds me of my Grandpa and Grammer; nonetheless, Eye dew sea watt ewe mean. ;)
But seriously, I've heard of vinyl referred to as both throughout my years.
Thanks for the clarification.:thumbs-up-smiley:
My guess to that would be that they had to create space, in order to make the songs fit; as there are only so many minutes a vinyl can hold on each side. You also reminded me of that same question that I, too, had as a child; that being why they were not in sequence.
There are so many reasons to love a soundtrack; but what I also got from the "Original" soundtracks on vinyl were lessons in editing.
Although I love the expanded versions, as well, it intrigues me as to the near seamless choices that were made when constructing a 45 minute album. If they ever...
Sorry to disappoint, but that wasn't Nick on the phone...it was me.:laugh::rock:
But, seriously;
your description of Nick Redman and, specifically, the closing line of your Post led me to thinking about the entirety of our blessed HTF.
I feel that from the Home Theater Forum's...
Yes, but did Robert Wise have your actual home phone number, too?
But seriously, you were in the enviable presence and company of three CLASS acts.:)
Hard to top that one.:thumbs-up-smiley:
A case of "the sum of its parts", no doubt.
But, once again, it's 70mm.
And, musical numbers-Wise; it was nominated for Sound (20th Century Fox Sound Dept.), Music (Adaptation Score; Lennie Hayton) and Best Cinematography (Ernest Laszlo).
Yes, I essentially repeated myself; but man, oh, man it...
Well then, if they need to raise monies for the project(s) then maybe they ought to think of releasing "The Sound of Music" on 4K/UHD a little bit sooner, and dispense with the age-old 5 to 7 year moratoriums placed on re-releases of classic films.:chatter:
A NOTE to FOX:
Not yet ready to give us "The Sound of Music" on 4K/UHD 'till its 55th?
Then how about at least quenching our thirst(s) with that other Robert Wise - Julie Andrews collaboration on 4K/UHD?
Otherwise, it's got to be a BD of "Doctor Dolittle" (1967); which would arrive just in time...
....and BOTH are 70mm fares.:thumbs-up-smiley:
"Star!" received 7 Oscar nominations.
"Doctor Dolittle" received 9 Oscar nominations.
And of these nominations both films shared their bids for Cinematography, Sound and Music. These 3 components are the great triple threat when turning 70mm to...
So perfectly written.
If studios need another year, two or few towards perfection - or dealing with red-tape - then so be it.
No doubt, delays can be frustrating; but "venom" is certainly not warranted.
Considering that it took 50 years to get "Napoleon" to its desired state, I would say that...
Many, many years, ago, I had called the office of Robert Wise to see if it were possible to obtain a list of the locations from "The Sound of Music", with a European trip in mind.
This, mind you, was long before the age of DVD; to which these locations are now readily available.
I would like to...
I, myself, can not address the specific rights and wrongs of the variable color palates seen in all its incarntations from 1965 to present with the same technical expertise possessed by others, within this thread. What I can attest to; solely as a filmgoer; is that since the age of 5, I have...
Wish I could've seen those two gems as you had. Lucky.
Which leads me to wonder what the future of "West Side Story" holds concerning a 4K UHD disc; especially since the 6-Track Sound Design was absent in the BD from 2012/3.
I am assuming you meant that the industry has a zero interest in closing the 5 year marketing gap towards an earlier release date. If that's the case, I shouldn't be surprised. To all our frustrations, it's worked so brilliantly in the past.
Concerning the purities of the original sound design and its reinstatement to a future 4K disc, will this inability to "stripe print" play a factor in the desired outcome, as discussed and hoped for by many within this thread?
