Pretty much sums it up for me. The cut allowed the film to finally be properly finished as wise intended.
Funny that a new sound mix was created for the theatrical blu Ray too.
Some of the matte shots in the theatrical are awful and it was great to see them replaced.
I also like that dialogue...
I am glad that the film was finally and properly finished with the directors cut. The fact that a final edit and sound mixing was not completed before theatrical release due to the set in stone release date makes me appreciate having the completed version of the film. I'm also glad that Robert...
Wow! Great interview piece!
100% agreed that the directors cut is the best version for many of the reasons stated in this article!
Looking forward to an hd blu Ray release in 2016 for the trek 50th anniversary!!
Paramount are you listening yet??
I had a similar though yesterday. Bond and the classic trek films in ultra hd would be reason for me to upgrade. I wouldn't upgrade the rest of my collection most likely. Bond and trek are those exceptions.
Good to know the third book is out. I haven't picked up any of these yet but hope to soon.
I'm working on return to tomorrow and I also have 2 other books to read right now.
Very cool. I still prefer the directors cut as it is a finished film. There is just so much missing from the theatrical: editing, sound, effects shots (like the establishing shot for starfleet where we see a giant logo because they were out of time).
Anyway. The blu Ray has great detail. It's...
The directors cut on Blu ray would be the definitive version for me. That being said I switch back and forth with the theatrical blu Ray and the dc dvd. The audio and video is so good on blu ray. We just need the dc in that format!!It would be nice to have the other versions as well but once the...
I think it makes sense to include both versions or even all versions of the film.Don't forget about the special home video VHS / abc cut!It is disappointing that paramount has not honored Robert wise's wishes that the directors cut be the version that is shown. Wise commented that it was the...
I received the book just before Christmas via Media Mail which explains why it took so long!
Wow! I'm only a few pages in, but it is very good!
Highly recommended for all Trek and TMP fans!!
My order has been completed so it must be in the mail.I contacted creature features several times via email before getting them to call me back about the order. I also tried to call but many times could not get through or had to leave a message. Can't wait for the book. I put the tmp soundtrack...
Great stuff! He has a cassette recording of audience reactions from the flms original showing?? Crazy!I'm excited about the book. Really hoping the dc Blu Ray is on the way soon!!!
Here's wishing for the directors cut on Blu ray soon! I was too young to see it in theater. I discovered it on VHS but wasn't a fan until I was much older. The soundtrack really grew on me over the years. It's tied with khan as my favorite score.
The 3 cd set of the TMP soundtrack is amazing. Love it!!!
I'm all in for the DC of TMP on blu ray. Hopefully it happens someday.
My thought is that the TOS films will be reissued in 2016 for the Star Trek 50th anniversary.
Hopefully new prints for the blu rays along with the alternate cuts...
I loved the new effects and I'm sure when re rendering they will look great in HD as well. I also appreciated that the effects were made to look like 1979 effects and not 2001 effects.
I thought everything on this project was handled very well, except for rendering the film's new effects for...
I really would like to have the Director's Cut on blu ray. As I recall on the DC DVD Wise did not want the theatrical version released further. He considered the DC his finished version of the film.
Of course that didn't stop Paramount from issuing the theatrical on blu ray and creating the new...
