Mike, this is a high priced boutiques player only destined for Japan, it has no meaning for mass market prices for UHD BD players. I am aware that at this point some may intercept with a huge post about the fact that there will never be a mass market etc, but you know what I mean.
In...
Guys, I heard there is a kind of important trade show coming up next week by the name of CEDIA. Might be interesting to see what happens there with regard to UHD Blu-ray, especially with regard to announced titles.
Right now we are only discussing a few 2k upconverts from Fox last I looked...
Once people start to see Blu-ray and 4k versions of a number of movies that came from the same master it will be evident what RAH means. Of course we have a number of beautifully shot large format productions that will look better in 4k with everything else being the same but most people will...
It should be noted that this
http://4k.com/news/4k-blu-ray-disc-standards-being-finalized-5652/
is not the official announcement that we have been waiting for, here is the clarification:
http://mesalliance.org/blog/uncategorized/2015/02/19/bda-4k-blu-ray-disc-spec-still-in-flux/
I think there will be a few tentpole releases of the more popular large format movies like Ben-Hur, Sound of Music, Spartacus and of course LOA. There will also be releases of movies that do not even profit much from 4k resolution but that nonetheless may benefit from higher bit depth and color...
Nothing has been finalized yet but I bet that there will be the option to at least play "normal" 3D Blu-rays.
Contrary to what some websites have posted the specs have not yet been announced.
I expect them to also announce at least some 1080p 3D version, probably with full chroma resolution...
When 4k Blu-ray comes out a compatible display and the player itself will be good enough as there will certainly be players with a separate HDMI output for outputting audio to non-HDCP 2.2 AV receivers and preamps.
As you mentioned it you should also check out the Auro 3D upconversion...
You will at least want a receiver with multiple HDCP 2.2 inputs and outputs and you will need to wait for the next generation of AV receivers for that to be available in the price class of the 7009.
Apart from that you can certainly also expect other manufacturers to produce 4k BD players but...
For 300000 pounds you could get some really big houses elsewhere but i guess that is not an option :)
The most important thing is that you are happy with your setup and it sound as if that is the case - enjoy!
I have seen 9 ft wide wide motorized screens in front of the window of 10 by 15 feet rooms - with the viewing distances necessary for 4k such a setup would be a perfect fit and I don't think that too many people have even smaller living rooms. So it is possible to have a big screen in a small...
This is a world of planned obsolescence so at some point you will buy a 4k projector and 4k Blu-ray player, until then your current setup will serve you well.
I have already taken the first steps as I always want to have the best format available to consumers plus it is one of the perks of my...
I would still like my classics to look as they used to look and not like something completely different.
For example I would like to emulate the look of the 4k DCP of Lawrence of Arabia at home and I would not want some "HDR optimzed" bastard version of it that creates a look that was never...
I think that the Todd-AO productions from Fox have the biggest potential for a 4k release.
To my knowledge Patton, Oklahoma!, Hello Dolly!, Can-Can, Cleopatra and The Sound of Music are candidates for a 4k release as all of them have been scanned at 4k or above. After seeing the Blu-ray of...
Would you like it to be in lesser quality instead ;)
The good thing is that it is backwards compatible so you will be able to enjoy the movies on your current display and then enjoy them some more on the next one you buy, I think that is as much as one can reasonably expect.
Especially HDR...
Streaming may still not give the revenues that studios want and imo it never will for big movies as it does not focus on specific movies that much but on the service itself. So studios could and should still be open to other options.
Plus streaming is unreliable and silly in that movies drop...
The studios are the big elephant in the room. CE manufacturers want a 4k disc format but I would expect the studios to be reluctant to sell something new based mainly on increased resolution. Ideally it would have to be a progress in picture quality that is easy to see for everybody and you...
If they mess things up for themselves as they did with 3D-Blu-ray there wil hardly be an upward shift in hardware prices with some of the first players not being much more than 500$ and dropping soon from there.
The discs will probably be priced roughly like 3D Blu-rays, give or take a few...
Content will come:Streaming4k TV4k Blu-rayAnd yes we will not see as much deep catalog as many would like but then many deep catalog titles don't need 4k in the first place.Whatever it is I already have a bit of 4k and will buy into most forms of 4k just to see what is out there so you could say...
I cannot see that anybody in this thread claimed that a 4k market will initially be as big as the already smaller Blu-ray market but Blu-ray also started out even smaller. If you go back to the post that I wrote you will see that I am not saying that anybody will guarantee a certain market share...
Something like that. At least you have to admit that both Blu-ray and 3D capable hardware and software are really cheap now so people would not have to worry about high prices for a new format staying that high for very long...
The carrot will have to be taken care of by the CE industry and things like HDR that if done right will make the movies look very different and hopefully better to the general public. Regarding expense: There will be comparatively little, just a player and the actual discs as 4k displays will...
A certain number of people will come simply due to the 4k moniker - gotta get some 4k content for that 4k display...It can be big enough to support niche labels, big catalog titles and big new releases. With (later on) HFR and especially HDR done right it might even give a fundamentally...
Thanks, I see that there is again the usual post about streaming conquering all which is ironic seeing how crappy the 4k streaming looked that I saw at IFA (at least it was labeled as 4k).
