Maybe it has something to do with the "bitmapping" options? I have it turned off because I honestly don't understand what it's meant to do. When I think of the word bitmap I think of a picture file, not music
^^If you mean irritating because it meant that there was no way to use any kind of upmix for listening (all channel stereo, pro-logic, Neo:6, or other DSP, etc) then I hear ya.
I'm not about to hack or mod my PS3 for anything. I'd have to be all kinds of dumb-assed to mess around with a $400 piece of technology, which is my favoritest of favorite toys. I'll just wait for a more substantial update, like if they introduce Divx 7 support or something big like that.
I'm not a member of the forum, (though I suppose we all are technically if we are signed up for PSN) so I just googled something like "PS3 update 2.53" and that came up. It was the official forum so I read what was there. Nothing more to it.
It didn't kill the internet, it just doesn't allow you to use the internet without updating to 2.53 first. The PSN is limited content-wise here in Canada, so aside from a couple of movie trailers it's all games. I'm not a gamer anyway, except I have two demos on the PS3 - Nascar 09 and...
I'm very hesitant to install ANY updates now, because of the risk of ruining my PS3 like 2.53 seemed to do with a lot of other people's consoles. I don't care about the gallery, but I can't use the internet (and therefore can't access PSN or BD Live features) until I do update. Of course...
Update 2.60 is now available. It's a minor update, but unfortunately there's no indication as to whether it fixed the problems update 2.53 had (ruining a lot of PS3 consoles) other than mention of "Improved System Stability". These are the supposed features: # Guest access to...
I update every time, because I like the minor bonuses like scene selection for video files and so on, but I have not updated to this 2.53 for two reasons, one of them being the reported problems with the update, and the other being I have no need for internet flash support because I don't visit...
My original receiver was optical and coaxial only, and FOX discs use DTS as their english tracks (ID4, Simpsons Movie are the two FOX BDs I have) and I played them just fine with the core stream. That is what ensures backward compatibility.
The full HD will never be sent through optical because it's too much information for that type of connection. Therefore, even without the ability to enjoy the HD audio formats, it's still technically better than the average DVD.
Within the last hour or so (between 1:30 and 2:30 AM EST, had to stay up for Eli Stone's pacific standard time broadcast) the PS3 update was made available for download.
I know you can't get it the conventional way, but for whatever reason my TV allows it when the PS3 is set to 1080p/24 playback. All I'm saying is its an option. Maybe not the best option, but an option nonetheless. My television also outputs 5.1 through its digital output when I'm using...
Mark you may find this interesting: My TV is a 720p set as well, an LG 42" plasma which goes as far as 1080i. However, I AM able to get 1080p by activating the 'BD playback at 1080p/24' setting. It doesn't work on my smaller LCD, but I suggest trying it anyway to see if it works on your...
My cable box is connected through HDMI out of pure convenience (allowing 5.1 from the TV to the receiver for both cable and PS3), but I don't see enough of a difference when I switch to component for recording TV shows.
My computer has a 40GB hard drive. It's very frustrating when editing video segments (as a hobby) because I'm constantly removing files and temporarily saving them on DVD-RW's just to make extra room. I hope to have a laptop by year's end with an obviously larger hard drive and that prevented me...
And the included PS3 Bluetooth remote in addition to Begins, yes! I doubt I'll even use up all 40GB of space, and since I've never been a gamer I don't consider it a loss that I'll miss out on the 80GB version price drop. It's glorious!
I have a question. If you own a PS3 strictly for playing Blu-ray movies and not for gaming, does it matter what capacity the PS3 has? Is the HD space something only gamers would really need?
