Girardi has already ruled out many of the remaining teams in the mix saying he doesn't want to move his family to certain areas. San Fransisco was one of those he had ruled out. S.F., BTW, has now tapped Bruce Bochy.

No wonder my comment above didn't make sense. The question I meant to ask--in the absence of a brain fart--was why wouldn't the YANKEES bring in Girardi as coach and groom him.....

You see, that's what I don't get. It doesn't seem like the team "wants" him at all. They gave away his position to Abreu. He trashes Torre after the post-season loss. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. BTW, the Sox sign Timlin for next year. Hope he's not hurt. 2.7-Million...

Just seems to me that said team might have made out better seeing what deal they could have struck with Sheffield on the free agent market. $13-million seems a little high for a guy his age with the injuries he's had over the past few years. I don't deny his bat is still fearsome...and his arm...

Interesting. First I'd heard of this. I'm frankly surprised at the way Sheffield trashed Torre after the ALDS. I doubt that is something Torre will let go of easily.

On ESPN radio yesterday, they were describing Tony LaRussa as a "one man Atlanta Braves" in that he's had (not including this year) teams with ten first-place finishes in their divisions...but only four pennant winners and one world series win. This is his 28th year managing! 7 1/2 years...

Yeah. I knew Randolph had picked Oliver Perez to start, but it's really an all-hands-on-deck kinda game (no "sure thing" reliable starter to put out there). It's the same kind of game Torre would have had to manage if he had gotten to a Game 5.

So now Willie Randolph has to figure out who his starter will be in the final game of his series. I wonder if Joe Torre now wishes he had ended up with the same difficult decision (by pitching Wang on short rest in game 4 of the ALDS).
