SPeaking just for myself, I saw FOTR in the theater and wasn't that thrilled with it, so I skipped TTT... until the TTT:EE opened theatrically and I decided to give it a chance last week. MAN, TTT:EE was so much better than FOTR (theatrical version) that I am now definitely seeing ROTK in the...

While I enjoyed that EW article (actually, the latest issue was really good in its entirety), I gotta use the old "hindsight is 20/20" expression. It might seem obvious now why some movies failed BO wise, but it certainly wasn't obvious before they opened, so to lay the blame on certain aspects...

I agree completely. Lopez is IMO an above-average actress with a lot of expression in her performances. Her "music" :) is IMO crap, but that doesn't take away from her acting skills. As for Ben Affleck, he's not really good OR bad IMO, he's just sort of... there. :) His performances in "Good...

Wow, I was way off on Tomb Raider and Spy Kids 3. I thought for sure that TR2 would bring in $30M+. I guess the first one must have been really bad for people not to return (I haven't seen it myself)? And what happened between between Spy Kids 2 and Spy Kids 3 that made twice as many people...

I can't imagine Tomb Raider doing below $20M. The first one opened at $47 million and I'd imagine that since it's the only action movie opening this weekend it should be able to at least bring in $30M. Likewise, I don't think Spy Kids 3 will do that good. Probably will do about the same as...

Hehe. I'll say mid 40's too. Seems like the previous one had a decent following, and there isn't anything new and exciting this weekend.

Come on, no predictions for this weekend? No speculations on the fates of movies already in theaters based on their performance the past week? How much do you think "2 Fast 2 Furious" will bring in?

I doubt they thought that. I believe they opened it on a huge number of screens for 2 reasons: 1) They wanted a box office record that could be reported in the media. Nobody in the media cares about "legs" except in the extraordinary cases like MBFGW. It's the opening weekend numbers that are...

I think "Bruce" might have a fairly good second weekend. Don't know why, just a hunch. WOuldn't be surprised to see it take in just under $50M. But I'm just talking out of my ass really. :)

Everyone's talking about the "4-day" performance of "The Matrix Reloaded", but do they include the wednesday night showings in those figures? I would assume that would have been at least $5M to $10M. If so, I think it's rather dishonest. Did it really break the $100M mark on Friday night?

I am not surprised at X2's drop (I didn't think it would make a lot more than the original, adjusted for inflation, I guess I was off on that though), but I just do not understand these numbers for "Matrix Reloaded". The reviews have been mixed, the trailers were underwhelming (IMO), and the...

Yeah, $54M. But it finished at $157M (see http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=xmen.htm ), so it took in 37% if its total grosses on opening weekend. I haven't checked in detail, but I think most big movies manage do to better than that, so that opening weekend only accounts for around 30%...

"X-Men" finished its run at around $150M, and had an opening weekend of more than a third of that number. I highly doubt that X2 will open much stronger than the first one, probably around the same numbers IMO (around $60M).
