Well, 2002 is almost over, here's how I did with my predictions:
AOTC: Original Prediction 350/Actual 310
Definitely overpredicted this one, and I thought I was being moderately conservative with that one!
HP:COS: Original Prediction 285 (Revised Nov. 8 prediction 245 )
Hmmm...It will...
TTT Friday estimates:
Reelsource: $15.05 million
BoxOfficeMojo: $15.4 million
Showbiz data: $15.95 million
either way those are great numbers, and if it followed a similar 2nd weekend pattern as FOTR, that would yield a weekend of $46.5, $47.6, and $49.3, respectively
Probably due to the face that it was the only movie that opened on Wednesday, and probably experienced a slightly bloated total due to mild "rush-out."
Very impressed with Two Towers numbers so far, it should have in the high $190's after this weekend.
I saw Gangs last night and I didn't think too highly of it at all. Besides Daniel Day Lewis and the opening scene, it was completley forgettable.
A few walk outs, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Yeesh, I don't agree at all.
Not only that....
Top Thursday grosses:
1. Attack of the Clones - opening day
2. Independence Day - July 4
3. Men in Black II - July 4
4. Men in Black - July 3
Everything else on that list is either an opening day or holiday gross, which makes TTT's thursday even more impressive.
Holy crap, some news that could turn TTT's Wednesday gross from a "Wow that's good" to a "Oh my God!"
1. The $27.5 has been reduced to $26 million
2. That is still an estimate, New Line will not release the actuals until Friday.
3. Here's the kicker...That figure ($26M) does NOT include...
Well back in post 1836 I revised my original $285 million prediction for Potter down to $245 million based on lack of hype, so I for one am not surprised.
I also revised my Two Towers prediction in that post, up to $325 million for the same reasons. I don't think Harry Potter's underwhelming...
Fellowship opened with 3359 theaters, so Towers is opening in about 7% more, and the 4th widest opening ever (behind Chambers of Secrets, Sorcerer's Stone, and Spider-Man)
In the back compartment, with the mini-magazine, cards, and the Nat. Geographic DVD. Make sure your giftset had a gold colored sticker proclaiming "free ticket inside" as I believe the ticket only came with "specially marked" packages.
Fandango is reporting TTT is selling more presale tickets...
Now that's what I call conservative. Fellowship made close to $28 for it's Wed+Thurs, and you think TTT will make less!?!
I seriously think TTT could open with a $23 million+ Wednesday and a $12 million+ Thursday ($35 million) plus a $64 million weekend for a 5-day tally of $99 million, and I...
I remember hearing the same thing about a little movie called Spider-Man earlier this year! All jokes aside I see Nemesis with around $26 and Main in Manhattan with something like $16.5. The Hot Chick also goes wide this weekend.
An absolutely terrible opening Friday for Analyze That, I think that with those numbers and the bad reviews it will be lucky to crack $55 million it's whole run.
Harry Potter seems to be falling more than expected, it will probably take in somewhere around $11 million for the 3-day frame, a...
Harry Potter 2 was exiting last weekend tracking at about $250 million, but after the Thanksgiving week/weekend bump it will be on track for $300-305 million. That number may actually increase over the next week and weekend, and buy the end of next weekend HP2 could be on track to match or...
Here's some Friday #'s for ya:
1. Die Another Day $15.47
2. Harry Potter $10.88
3. Friday After Next $4.38
4. 8-Mile $2.75
5. The Ring $2.53
6. Santa 2 $2.38
7. Emp. Club $1.21
8. MBFGW $1.06
9. Half Past Dead $1.03
10.Frida $0.67
Huge 63% drop for Harry, even with a big...
A 67% drop for 8-Mile, OUCH!
If Potter follows a simlar Sat + Sun as the previous installment, it'll end up with an $80.5 million weekend, good for the 3rd best opening weekend ever.
Just to put things in perspective on MBFGW's amazing run, Back in 1998 Titanic grossed $4.01 million in it's 20th weekend. Greek Wedding took in $14.8 million in it's 20th weekend, and has outgrossed Titanic every single weekend after that (even with inflation adjustment).
Although it's on...
Those are some very good holdovers from last weekend for most of the movies in the top 10.
The Santa Clause only drops 19%
The Ring falls a mere 10%!
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 0%!!!
The holiday movie season is here, and it looks to be a very healthy one. Like TerryRL said, 8-Mile will...
Hannibal made $58.00 million it's first weekend. I think 8-Mile's impressive Friday will be the biggest day of this weekend, but it's getting tremendous word of mouth so I wouldn't count it out yet. Let's not forget that Monday is a holiday, so Sunday's #'s will be larger than usual.
After this weekend The Ring looks to have over $80 million domestically, which puts it close to the list of the top horror movies of all time. Here's the top 9 (not counting action or "thrillers" such as the Mummy movies, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Lechter's, etc.)
1. Sixth Sense $293
2...
As expected, Jackass takes a steep dive from last Friday, down 55%
The Ring is holding up remarkably well, only down a slim 6% from last Friday. With it's impressive Halloween Thursday take of $2.8 million, it looks to have over $60 million after only it's 3rd spooky weekend. By comparison...
How come they didn't just film them all back to back to back after the success of the first movie? I think Harry Potter with a beard just won't cut it for most people.
Some very interesting numbers from Friday...
Jackass looks to double most everyone's expectations with a very impressive $26-32 million dollar opening weekend. This weekend could easily greenlight a sequel for what looks to be a very profitable and sequel-friendly series.
The Ring expanded...
Early Friday numbers:
1. The Ring $4.81
2. Sweet Home Alabama $3.02
3. Red Dragon $2.85
4. Greek Wedding $2.06
5. Abandon $1.94
6. Brown Sugar $1.51
7. Transporter $1.50
8. Tuck Everlasting $1.15
9. The Tuxedo $1.10
10.White Oleander $0.99
The Ring is off to a good start...
Did anyone notice the odd numbers jump for MBFGW's MON-MON box office? MON 10/7 = $560,000 and then all of the sudden Mon 10/14 = $1.16 million!!!
EDIT: whoops, Columbus day!
