The last time these 2 teams met in the series, St. Louis also went up 3-1 and then lost the next 3 games. Though in that case, it was a Cardinal centerfielder named Curt that slipped. And according to Joe Buck, the winner of game 4 in both the '34 and '68 Cardinals-Tigers series went on to...
I think that depends upon the team and player, to some extent. I recall, for example, Tino Martinez getting a big hand when he came back to Yankee Stadium as a Devil Ray or Cardinal. Same with David Wells, when he came back as a Padre - but not when he came back as a Red Sock.
Me too. They were favorite team back in the '60s and early '70s, for some reason (maybe because I liked their uniforms), though my favorite player was originally Dick Groat and then either Lou Brock or Curt Flood. But I rooted against them in '85 and '87 (I hated Whitey Herzog from his days...

Yanks over Tigers in 4 Twins over A's in 5 Dodgers over Mets in 5 Padres over Cards in 3 Yanks over Twins in 6 Padres over Dodgers in 7 And a repeat of the 1998 World Series: Yanks over Padres in 4 (Kevin Brown will throw out the first ball before each game.)
It's strange that nobody is mentioning Joe Mauer for the MVP anymore - isn't he leading the league in hitting? There were a few mentions for Santana a while back but no longer. Is there some kind of campaign to consolidate all the Twins MVP votes for Morneau just to make sure the MVP doesn't...
I'd guess someone will hit .400 before anyone hits in 57 straight games. Which one is more "impressive" is another question. I suppose someone could go 1 for 5 in 57 straight games, in which case hitting .400 over an entire season would seem like a bigger accomplishment. Not that DiMaggio...
