You are grossly exaggerating "personal attacks" a ploy to gain sympathy. I didn't say you were ugly or that your mother's a whore or something. So knock off the act, quit playing the poor little victim.
George, you didn't answer my question about An Angel at My Table.
And here we get to the root of it. My analysis: You want to be forum's "bad boy", childishly dismissing certain critical favorites, only because you believe it makes all the "pretentious" types go in paroxysms. You think you're...
Okay, I've gotta know... what did you hate about An Angel at my Table? It's a beautiful movie. And when was the last time you LOVED a movie you hadn't seen before? It seems like unless you're introducing your son to one of your old favorites, all of your reviews indicate mild approval at...

I agree that there are certain similarities between 3 Women and [that film], and also I agree that [that film] is the better of the two, but Altman's has a lot going for it. Spacek and Duvall (a massively underrated actress) are both fantastic, and the world has a hazy, dreamlike feel that...

. But if it didn't jump out at you, then perhaps I'm being oversensitive. And in fact, now that I research it (which I should have done earlier) it would appear that's there some evidence that this sort of thing happened quite a bit.
George, since you seem to have such strong opinions about racism, I'm wondering if you thought Two Women was racist. I certainly did (WAAAY more than Do the Right Thing, at least) but I'm curious about your view.
It's interesting when some sort of progress is being made, but the two of you just bicker endlessly and nitpick each other to death, point by point. It seems like you're each more interested in "winning" the argument rather than trying to come to any sort of mutual understanding.
I loved this movie too, and have been hoping to see more Ghatak. I was really excited to find another Indian director in the same vein as Satyajit Ray... it seems like pretty much all we get over here from India is the Bollywood stuff.
I'm not a big Hou fan, but the two you mention were films I didn't like all that much either. Three Times is saved somewhat by the first section, but the other two really drag it down. Try A Summer at Grandpa's or Good Men, Good Women. Those have a lot more going on, and more emotional content...
