Studios have departments (and budgets) for preservation that have nothing to do with home video/streaming/popularity.
With no existing useable masters, even decades old and SD, and possibly deteriorating original elements, the studios make choices daily over whether to save something, leave it...
I’ve seen several messages on several titles saying David & Tom should do them because they’re cheap! They are also retired and primarily worked on Cinerama related projects. Their knowledge, skill and love of the title brought them to WB’s attention, not their “low cost”.

He probably did, whether it’s the large-formats transferred from 35mm, or issues with colour on titles such as The Searchers, or something else entirely i’ve no idea. But to my mind Excalibur is defo top of the pile to be redone.
Another possibility is Dirty Harry. I’d be intriigued to know what the other films that George mentioned that were seriously sub-par on Blu, apart from Excalibur.
Nothing. The studio will either release it or they won’t. Unless 100’s of thousands of individuals request it.

One word - pandemic. It’s screwed up release plans especially on classics. Some titles have more easily accessible elements than others, some were in a more advanced state of completion/better condition than others and have been able to be fast tracked.
