actually the French Ultimate Edition now takes honors as the best looking version. Too bad they didnt get the WS Extended cut-or it would truly have been Ultimate
actually, if you check the back shrink-wrap, quite a few if not most discs are made in Mexico these days. thanks, NAFTA. note: it is not a "sticker" it is ink-stamped on the shrink-wrap, and probably purposely hard to see sometimes
Perfect version of the extended cut. (DL disc a must) It just so happens that ALL of the dreary "Prologue" happens to be on chapter one, cell one, of the disc-side 2. And all of the Theatrical cuts intro is also chapter one, cell one. a little tinkering and ZAM! The beautiful Princess...
agreed. the R1 Theatrical version has a lot of dirt specs and white specs (aka negative density) The French version is solid, crisp and virtually free of these artifacts. (I borrowed a copy) And the Extended version, (excepting the rather insipid prologue,) is very good in most spots...
I mean...how much could an extra disc in a double thin Amary set them back per set? They'll sell a kajillion of 'em- Universal-SPEND the extra $.25 per set-do the RIGHT thing...
ahh-I see Steve-im still not used to seeing links NOT being a different color-mine shows up in red, even 'secondary' links-usually are colored-like yours-so you would know to click on them... maybe its a setting in my browser cheers
I was wondering about that, Steve, but there is no reference link that I can see in your post, so I thought your post was maybe: posted by server out of que, or posting in reference to my post, OR commenting on the previous from today posts.... anyway 1st or 2nd-Great News! and I am always...
the French version is in fact darker, with far more detail and a 'solid' look. The UK looks blown out, contrast wise. It is stunning. If only they had included a widescreen directors cut. Anyone know about the cover? it looks almost like it is black felt with gold embossed lettering...
Its been mentioned elsewhere that the R1 edition has been given the 'in limbo' release date of 12/31/200x. I would think if the release date was just over a month away we would be hammered with advertising...but then, recall that the Widescreen laserdisc was quietly slipped into the retail...
12/31/xxxx is usually a date assigned to a product to show it is on hold/delayed, to be rescheduled, etc. (and occaisionally even cancelled). that 2 disc remastered set from the UK due in a month is beginning to look pretty good now....
note that it now comes in a keep case-hopefully, the thin-2 disc case-instead of a metal tin. Perhaps they had problems encoding onto a single DVD 18, and had to go to 2 discs, and then had to cut costs-hence, no metal tin.
I would bet and hope that like some other DVD-18s in the past, ie: TERMINATOR)-demand will force them to use 2 DVD 9's (in the single case with the flap for disc 2)
The Bits list the Extended version as 177 mins, DVD Times list it at 190-at any rate, a BIG surprise that the alternate version is going to be 2.35 widescreen
>>Universal Studios Home Video have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Dune Extended Edition for 10th May 2005 priced at $27.98 SRP. Dazzling special effects, unforgettable images and powerful performances highlight David LynchÕs stunning film version of Frank Herbert's classic science...
well, I guess we can write off an enhanced for 16:9 version from Universal this year. A few months back a video store employee posted here that he saw it on solicitation sheets speculating its release in the Fall...
