And just to add a little gasoline to the fire, wasn't PAL the more advanced tv standard over NTSC when the UK was introducing colour? IIRC, PAL (Phase Alternating Line) used the switching phase between fields to colour correct where atmospheric effects could affect colour fidelity with NTSC.
