    Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - The Conformist -- in Blu-ray

Right, when I originally wondered aloud, I had forgotten and/or didn't quite realize they could just use the old BD region coding method to do it... since 4K discs are really just BDs w/ extra layers and different AV encodes, but could still have certain aspects of these formats (like basic...

You don't have a Panasonic 4K player? IF you have, try the "top menu trick" first to see if that works before going hunting for a new, hacked player. _Man_

    Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - The Conformist -- in Blu-ray

Raro/Kino's probably going to release this in 4K before too long anyway, no? I can probably just wait for that -- not feeling like importing this given the region locking since I don't have a region-hacked 4K player, except my Panny 420, which may or may not work for this case... _Man_

    Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - The Conformist -- in Blu-ray

Hmmm... if it's truly region locked, sounds like one could try a player that can normally handle other regions for BDs (w/ whatever relevant playback method), ie. a 4K player that's region-hacked/hackable for BD, eg. hacked Oppo 203/205 or maybe a Panny (using the top menu trick). Still very...

    Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - The Conformist -- in Blu-ray

That is strange. Wonder how they're actually doing the region coding. IIRC, the concern during the earliest days of the format was that discs could be authored to "phone home" via the internet to authorize playback instead of the old region coding scheme used on DVDs and BDs... but no 4K discs...

As he noted, the list only intended to go to year 2000 as mentioned in the article, ie. only "films of the 20th century", so Skyfall and 1917 won't qualify. IF you actually meant BR 2049 (since you're talking Deakins), that won't qualify either of course -- the actual/original Blade Runner is...

The attempt is appreciated... but not sure what value that provides though due to whatever unknown downconversion(s) (both for color/tonality/DR *and* luminosity rez) that woulda required... _Man_

    Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - The Conformist -- in Blu-ray

Haven't checked shipping cost to USA, but if it's pretty much the same as to Spain, then the final cost shouldn't be bad for a couple good 4K titles. That would be ~$22/title assuming they don't bother deducting whatever VAT even though they really should (and won't have to add sales tax over...

    Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - The Conformist -- in Blu-ray

I certainly get that there are a whole lot of noise around all these... but I don't believe in "throwing the baby out w/ the bath water", so I'm not gonna just ignore all screen captures -- I find the ones provided by caps-a-holic useful/helpful enough, if not necessarily definitive, especially...
