That's really strange. I quit watching after three subtitle "appearances" (see my post above) but on my Toshiba they appear more frequently than they do on another brand of player...and they stay on.
Maybe deleting the rabbit feature will fix it? Damn the rabbit, I'm mainly interested in the...
OK. The player is a Toshiba SD-9000. From the main menu I press "play movie"
At 0:04:37 "HALT" appears in English as a subtitle. Subtitles play until I press the menu tab. The subtitles are "off." I press enter and the subtitles are indeed off.
At 0:07:51 "-Here's One -Ninepence" they...
Why don't the major DVD sites such as DVDFile, The Digital Bits and DVD Review have warnings posted? Don't they have a responsibility to their readers? A lot of people are going to buy Holy Grail discs that won't play in their players, and a lot of retailers won't accept defective returns...
Sure, it's a mistake - until the defect becomes known, which it definitely is. Best Buy and other companies will sell the disc, then refuse to refund your money because it's "opened." If they know it's incompatible with many players they should post a warning.
Has anybody - like the forum administrators - who has contacts with Columbia Tristar heard anything from them?
With a defect as spectacular as this a recall would be in order, along with a program to replace discs for the many people who are stuck with them.
For retailers to continue to...
I tried it on my SD-9000. No go. You know, it's highly likely that review copies circulated for a while before HG was released. Surely somebody at CTHE was aware of this problem.
I finally got to watch Holy Grail, and the Godfather 5th disc...by connecting up my Apex. I suggest you call Toshiba customer service and write the studios. It's peculiar that some DVD companies go to great lengths to replace discs with relatively innocuous problems, while Paramount doesn't...
Well, I've played over 750 DVDs on my SD-9000 and encountered no problems at all until now - first the Godfather 5th disc and now this. I talked to a Toshiba customer service supervisor and she said they hadn't heard anything about it...so I suggest everyone call them. E-mail is ineffective...
I'm not darqleo...it's the SD-9000 model, which has performed flawlessly until the last two weeks. It won't play the Godfather 5th disc, and now this mess. Toshiba have no firmware upgrade for this model, I'm told.
This is really disappointing.
Well, I'm watching the film and it never looked better. However, on my Toshiba the damned English subtitles turn themselves on every five minutes or so. On the Toshiba display subtitling is off, but the subtitles come on spontaneously. Re-entering the menu turns them off, but they very quickly...
