For what it's worth, MAME was released in letterbox format on laserdisc. That is probably why AMC was able to show it OAR.

AMC aired SOM on July 4th, 1996, and it was letterboxed. (The asterisks after the titles indicate letterbox format.) That was a week of seriously good movies. There are a few errors in the text; SOM was Julie's third movie, not second, and Saul Chaplin was not a chaplain.

Robert - I have to agree. The color of the blu-ray does not bother me as much as it does you, but I don't care for the sound. So, yet again, speaking only for myself, SOM on home video is an "almost". We'll see what the 50th looks like, if indeed, it is different at all.
