For what little it’s worth, a conversion of a Hollywood tentpole picture costs $10+ million dollars.
3D televisions haven’t been manufactured since 2016, projectors are dropping 3D support, and the disc market is declining, and the mass market for 3D discs specifically is pretty much done.
The...
There have been two stories that are somewhat but not entirely mutually exclusive.
One story is that the Wayne family feels that 3D is best experienced in theaters rather than at home, and therefore, are unwilling to allow their home video distributor (Paramount) to release it on 3D disc. I am...
With Warner, it generally doesn’t. Warner decides what they want to release and what they want to make available for licensing and they don’t really take suggestions, help or outside funding.
That’s pretty much how it goes with them. The only noteworthy exception was Brothers Grimm, and the only reason that happened is because Warner didn’t have full ownership of the title - it has shared ownership with Cinerama Inc, of which Dave Strohmeier and Tom March have a financial stake in -...
Conversions are very expensive. Studios generally spend something like $10,000 to $30,000 per minute of converted footage (over $1 million in total), while some conversions like Titanic were reported to be closer to $10 million in total due to the extra time and care James Cameron and his team...
Vinegar Syndrome tends to hold the line on pricing so I don’t expect Fresh For Frankenstein to be substantially cheaper in the future.
Look, I’d always love to pay less, but I’m comfortable with this. 3D discs are a niche within a niche. There is very little audience willing to pay for this...
FYI, it’s not merely a remaster - it is the full original release of the film. The current disc is a re-release version which had been edited for length and is therefore not the complete film.
Thank you so much!! :)
If we’re ever allowed to stand closer than 6 feet together, I’d love to host dinner and a movie gatherings one day for my fellow HTF family.
I’ve had to temporarily put aside my projection gear for the past few months as life getting in the way has, well, gotten in the way. I’ve dragged everything out for very special occasions even when everyday viewing became impossible and will continue to do so. And trust me when I say, this disc...
Yeah, I totally loved that one. I must’ve been watching it too loud when I watched it cause I accidentally woke my wife up. She came into the room expecting to find me watching some 21st century action tentpole and was utterly shocked to see Fernando “yealous” Lamas onscreen.
How can you judge whether a film is truly good or bad if you’re not watching the complete version? The Bubble as original conceived and created by its filmmakers may very well be a better experience than an edited version cut down for the sake of fitting into a time slot.
3D discs are the one category of thing that doesn’t play nice with my HTPC. So I’m on the way to a future where the only discs actually on display are 3D titles, and I’m pretty cool with that. I already started moving them to their own shelf and it looks pretty neat to see them all together...
My alma mater! That’s gonna be a far better event than anything they had when I was a student there.
Only thing we got in my day was a lecture from a hedge fund manager that bought some of Elvis’s likeness rights. Good for him, but that doesn’t really translate as something most of us can...
I’m really excited for everything the 3D Film Archive has in store. I haven’t been has active with my 3D posting lately - I’ve been writing more from on the road or during commuting so I haven’t had as much time as Ive had in the past to sit at home and enjoy 3D. But the recent preorders are...
Wait, when you use one of those headsets, you don't just view the movie, you view it in a fake movie theater? Unless I'm misunderstanding completely, I don't see the appeal of that.
When I watch a movie, the only thing I want to see on the screen is the movie. Why would I want to see an...
Oh man, I wish I wasn't working that day/time - sounds like a fantastic event. Hopefully some of our fellow members can attend and fill us in on what we're missing!
I'm sure! I've met half of those guys in person, hope to meet the other half at some point, and it's always a great group. I'll have to get some ultra thin crust pizza before putting on the commentary :)
Very excited to hear about all of the vintage westerns coming. I know so much more about...
Very much so!
I need to check this one out again - there were definitely some parts where I got so into how good the stereo photography looked that I let my mind wander away from the plot. I was never lost, and I got my money's worth out of it, but I'm sure that there are some details I...
