Steven: Actually, there is quite a bit of extra material in the current version. The whole third disk is a Tenchi encyclopedia. I guess they could fold in the Mihoshi Special and Magical Girl Pretty Sammy stuff, but that seems unlikely. John.

Kong: Well, I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but if the series is better than Tenchi Universe at least, then I'll be happy. I guess I'm just a Tenchi completist. I did get a chance to watch the first five episodes of Silent Mobius. Pretty good start, and only a little different than the...

Woo Jae: Yeah, I picked up Magical Project S volume 1 last night, along with Silent Mobius volume 1. I was going to try and finish off Love Hina, but they were out of volume 5. Maybe next week. I also picked up Reign of Fire and some region 2 titles from Blackstar UK. John.

Rob: Death + Rebirth is basically a synopsis of the first 24 episodes (Death), and a preview of End of Evangelion (Rebirth). While I don't feel too badly about picking it up, I'm not sure it will be watched again any time soon. You can skip D&R, and go to End of Evangelion, once you've...

Todd: Love Hina is basically the story of Keitaro Urashima, and his adventures in trying to get into Tokyo U. His grandmother leaves him her all girls dorm so she can go globetrotting. Keitaro (19) is a third year ronin, who made a promise to a girl when he was very young that they would get...

Dang it's getting slow again... I watched volume 4 of Love Hina the other day. In my opinion, the series is getting better, maybe a C+/B-. I also picked up volume 7 of the Love Hina manga from Tokyopop, which, IMHO is about a B+/A-. Obviously, the manga has more room for character development...

Andy: I think that's a real toughy. Some of the animated shows from the 50's were already using giant robots. Tetsujin 28 was being shown in Japan around 1958. When it came to the US in 1965, it was called Gigantor. I'm not sure if this one was the first or not. John.

Hey All: I watched volume 5 of GTO yesterday, and am definitely stilled thrilled with the series. It's not quite as good as the previous four disks - maybe an A- from the usual A+ quality. There is kind of a 'mini' story arc in the middle two episodes, but mostly it seemed a little episodic...

Kong: I pretty much have to agree with Woo Jae. I thought that the whole Gekiganger III was one of the best things about the series, and I did get a Macross/Robotech vibe from the series, but I just think that it wasn't enough for me to say "Wow this was really good". Fun - yes; excellent -...

Hmmm...kinda slow today. Anyway, I ordered my Malata DVP-520 (Black) Region-free, progressive scan player today. I ordered it from Next Big Thing Electronics in Canada, and got a good deal, since the exchange rate is so much in the US's favor. John.

Woo Jae: Thanks :). Actually, the cops talked to the people we think did it, and they found a PS2 in the kid's closet, which has mysteriously gone missing...It was also missing the power cord, which the thieves forgot to take. Unfortunately we didn't have the serial # written down, and I'm not...

Kong: Thanks :). Yeah, I think I'm going to pick up the Malata DVP-520, which does progressive scan, and PAL -> NTSC conversion. My chipped region free Pioneer DV440 did neither. Not that I'm big on Euro R2 stuff, but at least the option will be open. I've still got my old Toshiba 2008 which...

Hey all: Just got some bad news here. Yesterday, someone broke into my apartment and stole my DVD player (region free!), my PS2, some PS2-related items (memory card, extra controller, game), and an old computer scanner we had in the front room. These guys obviously weren't too bright - they...

Woo: I found Martian Successor: Nadesico to be a pretty fun series, but somewhat lacking. The whole Gekiganger III bit (which you'll get to soon enough) is hilarious, though. I just got done watching the third disk of Betterman. Is anyone else wondering what the heck the beginning video has...

Todd: CD Japan (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp) or Amazon Japan (http://www.amazon.co.jp) are good resources for Region 2 anime. AsianDB (www.asiandb.com) is a good source for Korean Region 3 disks. I'm not sure if they have Hellsing though. John.

Eugene, Woo: I just got a chance to watch my copy of Grave of the Fireflies CE with my wife yesterday. Very highly recommended, but you'll need a box of tissue, because you *will* be crying before it's over. I had forgotten exactly how hard to watch it was. The new edition is much cleaner than...

Hey All: I picked up Grave of the Fireflies CE and Tenchi Muyo! Mihoshi Special/Magical Girl Pretty Sammy yesterday. I probably won't get a chance to see them until Friday at the earliest. Definitely have to make sure to have enough kleenex around for Grave of the Fireflies. John.

Woo: Another thing that bothers me about Love Hina is the opening music; it's certainly not what I would have used, if I were going to do the series. However, I have to say that the manga for Love Hina really is better, at least in my opinion. I guess you get the needed depth that helps to...

    Advanced Anime Discussion Part II

Kong, Rob, et al.: I would have to disagree about Love Hina, at least the anime version. Tenchi Muyo is clearly better, at least for the OVA. I just picked up the second disk of Love Hina, and while the show is definitely getting better, I would say that it is still a 2.5-3 out of 5. Large...

Woo: You are absolutely correct as well, although I think the differences are due to the Japanese market vs. here. In the US, comics have always been more of a niche product. Contrast that with Japan, where manga are everywhere, and the medium is considered to be much more legitimate than in...

Jim: Macross Plus is definitely worth the money. In fact, you don't even need to have seen the original Macross to enjoy it. Of course the original Macross is worth every penny... Boogiepop Phantom is definitely weirder than Lain, and a little hard to follow. Jin-Roh rocks. 'Nuff said. I...
