I rented THE MESSENGERS at my local blockbuster. I probably won't do much more business as I'm with Netflix for now and $5 is kinda steep for a one off rental. If their section expands though, I might change my Netflix for Total Access. For the time being I want to impress upon Netflix that Blu...
I would think a Star Wars fan would want to see the Blu Ray numbers rise enough to bring Lucasfilm into the HD optical media game. Nothing wrong with a format war ending.
Of course we're also looking at 1700+ for each blu ray title that comes out, and the same 1700 not purchased on each HD-DVD title that comes out. That's apart from the media attention and visibility. This is assuming that Blockbuster will stock one copy of each Blu Ray title at each store. This...
Especially considering that Dell will be loading Blu Ray drives into their hardware, as will Apple. I suspect they have a greater sales base than Toshiba on the computer front.
I saw 2 women in the Best Buy today (where I tried to buy my sold-out Panny) who were fretting over HD-DVD versus Blu Ray. I explained the blockbuster situation, and they decided to go ahead and pick up the Sony TV/PS3 deal that's in place.
Nope, it's not as solid a link as I'd like, but I have further information to indicate that the retailer in question is Crutchfield and that these are orders that were cancelled which were placed while the rebate was active.
Two sources one here: http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/hd-dvd-on...les-270313.php another being several people I know, myself included, in different states, inquiring at Best Buy if they'd heard about the Blockbuster news and what they thought of it leading to responses about HD-DVD unit sales...
According to folks at Best Buy and other retailers, HD-DVD decks ceased selling almost immediately upon the notice about Blockbuster. Apparentely a lot of mail order/online retailers received cancellations for unshipped decks also.
The Pirates movies were two discs, yes. One 50gb disc dedicated entirely to each film, and a 25gb to the special features. This is a bad thing because?
Solid perspective, and I don't wholly disagree. However it will never have to "fight" with DVD. Even if sales shifted to 80/20 DVD/BD that'd be a pretty solid success. Further, there is no doubt (in my mind) that BD will be wildly successful for computer and data applications. Computers had no...
Blockbuster knows that THEIR future lies with Optical Media, and not VOD. That said, they also know the format war is bad for THEIR business. They made an informed decision and picked a side. They will not be the last retailer to do so.
