Okay -- last movie of the Halloween Season: Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948) :star::star::star::star: This is always my main choice for Halloween Night... a classic featuring all the great Universal Monsters, very fun and festive and perfect for the occasion. Since there's not...

Freddy vs. Jason (2003) :star::star::star: I'm a huge fan of FRIDAY THE 13th and Jason, and I'd waited for this movie to be developed for 10 long years. I also couldn't wait to see Jason kick Freddy Krueger's wisecracking ass. When the movie first came out I thought it was excellent, and gave...

Sure it's okay to have different tastes and overlap. I didn't mean to be offensive. But it's still my opinion (and that's all it is - my opinion) that THE THING is overrated. I arrive at that "label" because it is so universally well-regarded and enjoys a grand reputation. I think it's just...

I'm going to be sad to see this end this year, Russell. Which is why I've thought up a new idea to keep this fun routine going on all year long from November 1st through September 30th every year - but without jeopardizing this traditional "SCARY MOVIE CHALLENGE" in any way!. Check out a new...

"Overrated" is usually applied when someone doesn't appreciate a movie that generally enjoys a "good" or "great" reputation - that is, as an overall understanding (like CASABLANCA or CITIZEN KANE generally being considered an exceptional film by the majority of viewers). Many films have a...

SAW V :star::star:1/2 I thought the first SAW was the most original horror film in years, and I also like parts 2 and 3. But after the horribly confusing PART 4 (which I rated a BOMB) I thought I'd be done with this franchise at this point. But what the hell --- time heals some wounds and so I...

Rating them too high? Not to me, you're not! I give 'em both 3/4. Just a lot of fun and very entertaining giant monster flicks.

You're not kidding, Pat! This is hands down one of my all-time favorites. I grew up with it on TV at age 8, when it played on New York's CREATURE FEATURES under the title HORROR HOTEL. Pretty intense back at the time.

WHEW!! For a while I thought my computer would be down for the rest of this month... I had a 1-minute blackout in my house the other night and it burned out the motor in my computer. Had to go back to have a new motor put in, but luckily I'm now good to go. Here is some brief catching up...

The Walking Dead (1936) :star::star:1/2 Boris Karloff stars in this interesting Warner Brothers production which blends their gangster formula in with horror. He plays an ex-convict who's released after doing time for striking and accidentally killing a man, but then is newly set up by a gang...

I couldn't agree more, Tim. I love Lugosi, and MARK OF THE VAMPIRE has some really creepy and impressive stuff in it. But by the end, you're really let down.

My Son the Vampire (1952) :star::star:1/2 Although this isn't saying much, I've always thought this was Bela Lugosi's best turn in a 1950's film. It's a British horror-comedy and the last in the Old Mother Riley series, which starred Arthur Lucan in drag as the chattering old biddy. Mrs. Riley...

I watched CHAPTER 27 the other night and didn't count it, even though I guess it's more of a "horror" story than Mario's THE SILVER CHALICE! :D I decided to stretch it a bit this year with DECOY and NIGHT HAS A THOUSAND EYES, though (DECOY had men being returned from the dead; NIGHT was about a...

I ask myself the same questions, Lucia. Frankly, even though I have been home sick from work for the last few days, I still haven't managed to watch more than a couple of films a day (I think I did 4 one night). The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb (1964) :star::star: Not quite as unwatchable as I feared, but still a limp and rather average affair that I don't see myself revisiting any time soon, if ever. I like this movie very much myself, Pat. I give it the same star rating that you do. I agree completely that SHE-WOLF OF LONDON is a terrible film. But I part ways with you when you quibble about how "this has nothing to do with the franchise so why is it part of this DVD collection". Because although you're right -- SWOL has nothing to do with the WOLF MAN franchise (but...

The vampire gags in FROM DUSK TIL DAWN ("You know what they say about me -- I SUCK!!") are more of that AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON comical crud I hate. But I do like the way the film changes its genres midway, and I can always look at Salma Hayek.

It's the latter. Not that I can defend poor continuity, but at the time these films were made there was no TV or home video, no thought that people would be watching them together in a row on DVD! Still, it's sloppy.
