I love Ben Hur. Withe the first dvd, I was appalled at the bad picture quality - and the sound - NOT the original 1959 Academy award winning mix but a new mix that was terrible. bloated bass sound, high end cut off and some bad remixing. How could they do this? the new DVD - great picture...

Where this idea comes from that ben Hur had a reissue with ten extra minutes (from where- without Wylers OK?) is absurd. There indeed was a reissue where the film was CUT - not lengthened.

You certainly cannot rely on this review. The man says the dvd sound is in 5.1 of what was a two channel stereo mix in the theater - no - it was six channel and there was no two channel stereo in 1959 film.
