Meh.........wake me up when there's a 5 for $50 or better yet a 2 for $20.
$100 is a bit too much to ask when you're first dipping your toe in these waters.
Aside from that, right now there isn't 10 titles available that I feel the desire to own, probably 5 or 6 at the most. I'm sure there...
With Sony continuing to churn out some great catalog sets in these woeful times I have a hard time swallowing the fact that the only titles Warner thinks they can market through regular retail channels lately feature Esther flippin Willaims.
Either Sony is currently in the business of pissing...
Yeah Tall Target is a very disappointing addition to the Archive treatment as is Berlin Express another of Warners better remaining Noirs.
So I guess this bundle of Archives constitutes some of the the planned mythic 5th Noir set which is looking like it was scrapped.
Good to hear that.
I'll pull the trigger on She whenever I can get it for a reasonable price. I'll either wait for a general price drop to $9.99, a 50% sale or if they ever start allowing customers to create their own "bundles" instead of having them pre-selected.
Yeah, unfortunately I'm starting to think that was all just damage control to get the fence-sitters to drink the Kool-Aid and to quiet the malcontents (like myself) so the Archive program can gain some traction. I'm sure those aforementioned "prominent people" got duped, I'd hate to think they...
Which of their other previews for scope films are squeezed this way? I sampled Capt Nemo after sampling She for a sanity check and it wasn't compressed.
The UK DVD is botched the exact same way as what you see on the Warner Archive preview, which is why I worry.
Well good luck, hope your faith...
Well, going by their preview SHE is a botch job! A 2.35:1 aspect ratio compressed and squeezed into a 16X9 frame. WTF?!
Doubly disappointing. Not only does this not get a real DVD release but this is.......... ugh..............How this got by anybody in QC (assuming there is a QC department)...
Didn't know one needed to buy a product in order to criticize a high price-point.
Not to mention lack of features, lack of closed captions/subtitles, confirmed interlaced transfers (on the first batch) and (arguably) lessor method of manufacturing.
Go figure.
There are just too many fundamental problems with this program for me to be pacified by a cryptic "things are being worked on behind the scenes" comment.
I'm sure RAH is privy to insider info and I understand not disclosing any info but none of this does anybody any good without Warner...
I seriously think the Tarzan situation was coincidence, nothing more. Titles have been pulled from the schedule occasionally in the past for unknown reasons.
I've recorded other Archive titles off TCM in the past couple of months, none of which were pulled.
Plus anything unreleased to DVD is...
Awwwwwww CRAP! Found another one I'd like to own, 20,000 Years in Sing Sing. This wasn't deemed worthy of a pressed DVD release? Really?! First Beast of the City and now this. I suppose there will be no more Tough Guy/Gangster collections in the future...........:thumbsdown...
It's been a few weeks since I checked the Warner site for what titles are deemed unworthy of a decent treatment.
I see two of Warners better Film Noirs, The Unsuspected (1947) :frowning: and The Verdict (1946) :frowning: and another of their better Westerns, Colorado Territory :frowning: ...
I came to that conclusion about 30 to 40 pages ago.
.....and.......the calendar keeps on turning forward........with no (new to DVD) Warner catalog announcements.............
Maybe they'll throw us a bone and release a catalog title or two in September or October. Something they already...
I think simply the caliber of the titles offered is the the key sign regardless of restoration. We're already seeing titles ripe for box sets pop up but once we start seeing the creme de la creme of their catalogs pop up in the Archives, titles like The Sea Wolf, Magnificent Ambersons, The...
I don't think double dipping "complaints" will be the factor, rather the fact that these films have a limited customer base as it is and once it's sold as an Archive they've just cut into the prospective DVD customer base for that title.
For me, once I've spent $15 - $25 on a title it's going...
Since you emphasized that sentence from that quote you might want to note again where it says seems.
Let's just say I've read posts that have an obvious emotional slant towards defending Warner at every turn (not you but I'm not going to mention any particular posters) and on the flipside...
Well as they say - things do change, nothing lasts forever, and all that. ;)
Sony for years was a collectors nightmare, yet based on the past year and what they have planned for this year and beyond it looks like they're poised to dethrone Warner. I also remember years ago how crummy Warner...
Just call me the Archive Antichrist.
Can't blame Warner if they eventually drop standard DVD. I'm sure we'll see a few more releases trickle out this year but I wouldn't be surprised to see them completely dry up by next year.
Seriously, why bother with the expense of restoring films...
and your point is ......what exactly? Just another dude on an internet messageboard who thinks he's perfected the art of burned media and claims to know the "real reason" why Netflix isn't carrying these. Or rather provided a slew of theories. Not based on any inside information but...
My statement about Netflix was in response to Simon's post about burned discs. Just a matter of fact statement of some info I obtained as to Netflix's lack of confidence in the durability of the Archives and why they weren't offering these for rent. Info that you seemed hell bent on disputing...
The choice to not carry them isn't up to Warner, it's up to Netflix. What aren't you getting here?
If ClassicFlix can place an order so can Netflix....but they're not touching these with a 10-foot pole.
I wish they did though. I'd rather not go through the bother of switching online rental...
Are you a member? How is their service?
I might be interested in trying their service just to catch a few of these titles that I haven't seen. Plus I'll get to deny Warner a few Archive sales this way. :D
Funny enough is that Netflix won't touch these with a 10-foot pole because these are burned and they don't think they'll hold up.
Can't say I blame them.
There are a handful of Archive titles available which I haven't seen that I wouldn't mind renting like Doc Savage, Crescendo and a few...
From what I understand of the process a separate digital file for CC is created, so as long as that file was retained there shouldn't be a need for the tape. I find it hard to believe they would create new CC file for every incarnation of a title (broadcast, VHS, DVD, SE DVD, etc, etc) but I'm...
There are companies that do this service, Warner may out-source or do it in-house (maybe some of our local "insider experts" can chime in here) I don't know. I do know some studios do out-source it. The cost to create/transcribe CC files can range on avg from $15-$30 per minute of video/film...
Um No.....no you didn't. Missing is the one that that affects people in the most adverse way.....lack of English Subtitles or even basic closed captioning.
For me the lack of Subs/CC is only an inconvenience but for the millions of hearing impaired in the US and abroad this nasty little "cost...
