John: I still haven't seen any official news from Criterion saying they are going HD, only stuff on the fan forum. There isn't an announcement I can find stating this title will be released at the end of the year on HD. Can you please provide some backup for your claim?

Thanks for the Classic Sci Fi link. I had this preordered having never seen it before, but after viewing the trailer I've decided to pass on it for now.
