Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

I think the great thing about the franchise is the way we can all take a different viewpoint of the material. I'm down with the failure and embarrassment idea because I don't buy V'Ger is so powerful and only one being (ie. Spock) can understand it. Sure, we don't see everyone in the universe...

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

That show with Fuller is one of the reasons I listen to as many podcasts as I do: I always learn something new no matter how well I know the material. The way these guys talk about TMP and the themes and characters...I guess I never stopped to figure all of it out previously. For instance, the...

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

Exactly my point. It's not only in the novel.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

That's my assumption too, but I don't see why the reference can't pay homage to two different things at the same: both Archer/ENT and the piece that Mark mentions. I could be misreading Mark's comment, but my interpretation is that the reference/incident is in the novel but not the movie. If...

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

It'll be a long time before I get to Trek 09's novelization, but there is a line in the film about "Admiral Archer's prized Beagal." While never seen, a Beagle is mentioned, so it does exist in the actual film in dialogue only.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

I'm reading all the Trek books, in order, and have been doing so for a few years now. TMP was in my read list back in 2016 and the things I remember about it are the warmth and humanity in the book which don't translate in the film and a deep sense of desperation from Kirk to figure out how to...

Thank you for the reminder, Nelson! I'll be spinning one of the five discs (2 releases) I have shortly to celebrate.

Thanks for the morality, Tino. We'll agree to disagree and leave it there.

Ill prepared is not having read your script. Idiot is not knowing then name of one of your stars. Utterly foolish. Senesless. Lack of intelligence. Ignorance.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

And there's the thing about every Trek film, at least for me. Regardless of their relative merits as a movie, the score has almost always been top notch. Every movie has at least one track to get me going. I'm sorry, but yes, he is. When he refers to LeVar Burton as Laverne (for six...

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

Really? I've never heard anyone refer to Nemesis as anything but the worst of the bunch. I'm no fan of Insurrection, but it at least has some redeeming features. The location shooting is refreshing and the score is engaging. The premise itself it pure sci fi. But it also has it's awful moments...

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

TMP will always have a special place in my heart. The TV cut was my first exposure to Trek and I got special permission from my parents to stay up WAY past my bedtime to watch the movie. Seriously, bedtime was 7:30 or so...and I stayed up, on a school night, to 11. Alone. It's not the most...
