I saw the movie over the weekend and liked it, but didn't love it.
It's objectively very well-made. All the actors are terrific, and the recreation of the time period certainly seemed authentic. However, I'm going to show my age here. Things like inserting DiCaprio into Lancer and The FBI...
For those of you who have already seen it or will see it soon, around how many sudden loud noises/jumps are there in it and how frequent are they? I want and expect to see it, but since I really have a problem with jumps, I'd like to know going in what I'm in for. Thanks.
The answer is that he originally made it as one film, but when Mirimax (effectively, Harvey Weinstein) decided to cut it in half, it became two films, and therefore is two.
If the discrepancy bothers you, blame Harvey Weinstein. This is the least of his alleged crimes.
Deadline points out that Burt Reynolds was due to start shooting his role as George Spahn "in a couple of weeks."

Damon Herriman has ALSO been cast as Charles Manson in the second season of Mindhunter, meaning he'll appear in the same role in two separate projects probably releasing in the same year:

Because they're just not done yet, today it's been confirmed that Rumer Willis, Dreama Walker, Margaret Qualley, Costa Ronin, Damon Herriman, Victoria Pedretti and Madisen Beaty have joined the film.
Herriman is playing Charles Manson. Since he was Dewey Crowe, I feel like QT just has to give...
Even more new casting...including an actor to play Roman Polanski:

Has anyone seen him in anything before? I'm not familiar with his past work.
Cool!
I actually just visited the Cinrama Dome in March when I was vacationing in California and saw Isle of Dogs on it. It was awesome. It will be fun to see the theater in Quentin's movie next year.
James Marsden is joining the cast in a mystery role: http://www.slashfilm.com/once-upon-a-time-in-hollywood-cast-james-marsden/
Seriously, can this cast get any better?
The distributor, Annapurna, was new, making its first release as an independent company with Detroit. I think it was a great movie, but would have been better served if it had bowed during awards season. John Boyega was in it, and Star Wars makes him a recognizable face to millions of people...
Yeah. Obviously, I don't know if there's a role for him, but it would be fun if Tarantino got Walton Goggins, who of course was in The Hateful Eight, to come play with Olyphant again. They were so fantastic opposite each other in Justified.
Detroit wanted to do the same thing last year in tying its release to the anniversary of the event, which was in July. It bombed with $16 million and didn't receive any awards attention. While I understand the appeal of tying it in with the anniversary, sometimes it's better not to do that...
The release date in August 2019 is interesting, because the more terrific this cast becomes, the more it seems like a year-end awards season run would be in order.
