Criterion Press Release: It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World (Dual Format)

It wasn't your fault. If you like 3D, that's great. A suggestion never made is one never fulfilled. I take full responsibility for picking up the 3D issue. Thank you for the opportunity. ;)

Criterion Press Release: It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World (Dual Format)

How is a film shot when it is intended for a conversion? Is the 3D processing strictly interpolation? Or do you need to supply digital 3D set models, photos or camera pans to supplement the 2D? Do you need to supply those from empty sets from the exact position(s) of the camera(s) and so forth?

Criterion Press Release: It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World (Dual Format)

To clarify for Moe Dickstein, the colorization I referred to was of the Ted Turner fake variety - not the actual advancement of color film.ahollis, the film and theater companies hear people like me, but it's like Microsoft and Windows 8. We'll probably never know whether they are in denial or...

Criterion Press Release: It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World (Dual Format)

If those films, along with Avatar, are not forgotten by history, 3D will remain an asterisk. 3D has been "just beginning" since, as the Wiki points out, "in some form since 1915, but had been largely relegated to a niche." It was prominent in the 50s, resurfaced again in the 80s (Jaws 3D in...

Criterion Press Release: It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World (Dual Format)

3D is a gimic that will die yet another painful death - like colorization. Criterion Press Release: It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World (Dual Format)

My teen children and an adult child and I are watching the extended edition at about an hour a night. They've watched the Laserdisc many, many times over. They still laugh. The new scenes are fun. Thanks for your work on the new edition. I am shocked that stock from the Laserdisc edition...

Criterion Press Release: It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World (Dual Format)

Really? I didn't have my sarcasm filter on because I wouldn't have expected that from Mr. Harris. I don't know what to think if this isn't being taken seriously except to wonder whether he thinks my concerns are from an ignorant fool. I took the issue of the failure of the original...

Criterion Press Release: It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World (Dual Format)

Should I read that as materials that could be used by future generations are knowingly and intentionally destroyed for business or proprietary reasons? The very thing that, had it happened in the past, would have made such a restoration now impossible? Wow. I'm not a professional archivist...

Criterion Press Release: It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World (Dual Format)

This is baffling to me. Surely while in the midst of a restoration for the Laserdisc, there was an acute awareness about the loss of elements and what that might mean to future editions. I would have expected a deep preservationist or archival mentality during the entire process. Why the...
