If those launch prices are correct then UHD is most certainly only going to appeal to a very small market, at least to begin with. I was expecting £400 pounds or less for the players.
A lot of 3D blu Ray titles in the launch, do they think we want to watch them in 2D, maybe some do but I bet...
It's all in the mix, some Flac downloads are not true lossless audio, it's a bit like selling an upscale dvd as high definition, this happens more than you might think with audio and video, the source has to be great to begin with and that does not happen all the time, the gadget show never does...
So basically 3 films originally shot in native 3D are now going to be the frontrunners of a new 4K format, count me out, not impressed at all, i sure hope other studio's have better titles more suited to the format than these ones, i believe 3D shot titles should remain 3D and that isn't...
I see it as a niche market, the laserdisc of the 21st century, a small number who want to invest in the highest possible quality, whether that's enough to keep a format going i don't know, i think DVD, Blu ray, UHD and streaming can co-exist, UHD may not be huge but i think it can survive nicely...
Sports content and video games benefit from higher refresh rates, 3D can too but if it's too high then movies just get the soap opera effect look. One of the benefits of Epson's 480hz panels on their high end projector range is much better/brighter 3D.
I don't have your television but i doubt...
Let's hold out hope for OLED now that Samsung have given funding to a company called Kateeva, they use a cheaper inkjet printing method which they say slashes the cost of making OLED and produces better yields, hopefully it doesn't reduce image quality, you also have LG with OLED, i would hate a...
Yes i am aware of that, i assumed everyone knew what i meant, i was referencing an article* the point being that if they wish then i believe the PS4 could run 4K blu ray discs without issues, it might need an add on or it might need a firmware upgrade but i think it could do it. The PS4 can...
HDMI 1.4 can support 4K at 30hz, that's good enough for most films, i think either a bolt on or a firmware upgrade can address the other deficiencies, now whether they would do it is another thing as Sony seem to want the PS4 to be for gaming this time around rather than anything else, remember...
I agree with your post, i think the studio's won't spend money specifically for 4K blu ray releases but there is a lot of content already archived at 4K, the problem i see is many are downrezzed from 4K scans to create 2K masters.
Will they go to the expense of creating new 4K masters, i doubt...
It could be DOA because most studio's might not support it, just like Dolby Atmos, where only two studio's are so far supporting it. Or it could become a nice little niche market, higher prices, smaller sales, some happy UHD owners, who knows.
All they need to do is put out a 4K re-mastered...
I hope an internet connection is not required, this would likely put an end to importing titles from other regions, i stick the disc into my legitimate Region A player but will it open the pod bay doors, nope, HAL tells me it can't do that, apparently it's got my IP and doesn't want to play...
