I wonder if you are rich enough to afford it whether the studio would entertain you if you went to them and said here's $80,000 can you do a new 4K film scan and some cleanup and additional work and when you are finished please mail me the disc, i'd like a 1080p and 4K blu ray, would they do it...
From what i gather you have a small colour gamut increase with xvYCC on some of the Sony mastered in 4K releases, it's not the same as deep colour and those releases have been encoded to specifically work with a small selection of Sony televisions and projectors. I doubt any streaming service...
I believe so. I posted the link in another thread months ago.
A bit like the proposal to create super fast highway lanes where those with money can pay to avoid traffic jams by using the lanes.
I'm personally not willing to pay more than i would pay for a disc and certainly not unless the...
That doesn't tell the whole story, another site ran some tests and found people could tell the difference between 1080p and 4K content on 50 inch televisions at a reasonable distance away, you won't need massive screens to see a difference and if they actually go for 10 or 12 bit colour we will...
I'm only ten years older and have heard of all of them, if you are a film fan you seek this info out and watch the movies, we're going to have to lock you up in a small basement somewhere and force feed you classic films for the next two years.
P.S. Don't worry, we will feed you too. :P
I don't buy it, many of us just do not have the speed for this and will not have the speed even in five and maybe even in 10 years time, i also don't think the internet can cope with everybody streaming and downloading huge amounts of data and they will require huge amounts if everyone was...
I wonder how they achieved that, upscaled i guess, i read a rumour that they are working on a new Arri 6K camera with a proper 65mm sensor thus it will give much better image quality than the rival competition which squeezes things onto smaller sensors.
As far as i'm aware Skyfall has a 4K digital intermediate.
It's true that some of those films only have 2K digital intermediates but if the digital camera was greater than 2K resolution then that doesn't stop them going back to the original footage or in the case of 35mm film the negatives and...

House Of Cards was shot in 4K.
Okay i have edited this post, after Googling for some info, if Breaking Bad was shot on 35mm film, some websites say it was, then that means...
It's not vaporware, the players will come, the software will come, the members of the BDA include all the major Hollywood studio's and the major hardware manufacturers, take one hardware manufacter in Sony who is heavily promoting 4K televisions and also owns Columbia and has for years been...
You hit the nail on the head, communication is vital, we live in a world where information from half way across the globe can reach you in seconds thanks to the power of the internet, studio's need to understand the market is more mature, people know about widescreen, they know about film grain...
Twilight Time, Kino, Criterion, Shout, Mill Creek etc etc etc, they know the quality in advance, they make the choice whether to release substandard product onto the market or reject it, if they choose to reject it then they have my respect, if they instead choose to release substandard rubbish...
I tend to agree with what Dick says above and would add excessive edge enhancement to the discussion, when the dials are pushed too far and you start to see a thin halo around objects then they have gone too far, those halo's are digital and not to be confused with some you see because of the...
