The English Patient--Of all the Oscar winners I have choosen, this is probably the dullest. It goes nowhere, does almost nothing, and I'm supposed to be captivated? Give me some action, please. Something. Anything.
12 Monkeys--This film moves at a snails pace and has an absurdly obvious climax. I tried really hard to suspend disbelief and be entertained with this film, but the gaping holes in this exceeded the limits of my credibility. And the meandering plot nearly put me to sleep.
O Brother, Where Art Thou?--This film was SO annoyingly unfunny it frustrated me. I was constantly checking my watch, praying it would end soon. The screenplay puts you right to sleep (especially in the scenes where they sit around campfires exchanging depressing, meaningless gibber jabber)...
Shakespeare in Love--The Academy must be delusional. Best Picture? More like an exercise in the powers of hype. I cannot get over all the good reviews this overrated snoozer got, and for what?? Plot and character development? Where? The acting wasn't anything out of the ordinary either...
The Exorcist--I just don't understand why this overrated yawner is considered one of the scariest movies of all-time. I mean c'mon, the trailer for Young Frankenstein was scarier! Don't get me wrong, I enjoy horror movies and being scared, but this wouldn't even crack my top 100.
A Beautiful Mind--This borefest is no better than a TV movie of the week, and far from the masterpiece it is hyped to be. How this was awarded best movie of 2001 over the infinitely more interesting Memento is beyond me. It saddens me to think that these days, this is what passes for great film...
Dogma--Everyone I know loved (and I mean LOVED) this movie. I couldn't stand it. If I wanted to be preached at and lectured at for 2 hours, I'd either go to church or to a philosophy lecture. The worst in Kevin Smith's Jersey series by far!
2001: A Space Odyssey--nothing happens on screen, and nothing more happens on screen, and then nothing more happens, and then HAL goes nuts and then there's a really bad disco light show and finally, the movie is over. Makes me sleepy just thinking about it. :)
Jan, does this mean I won't be getting your support when it comes time to vote on the lists? :D And, for what it's worth, I don't hate any of the movies I'll be listing. I simply feel they're ridiculously overrated, and I'm not afraid to say so. That's the whole idea of this thread, right...
