LucasFilms says no Star Wars on BD or HD DVD in the near future.

The problem is it's not entirely clear that those element HAVE survived. Or if they have the seem to be missing. The other problem is that Lucas is simply not interested in doing it. He doesn't like that version of the film, so thats the end of it. Doug

As I said if a good quality Technicolor print could be found in england that might be the way to go. But that print is still going to be in some cases 6 or 7 generations away from the original camera negative and the final results probably aren't going to be what most fans would expect in terms...

They probably did. But that would still involve reconstructing the film from scratch, not an inexpensive proposition for a film that the director wasn't particularly happy with. Also at this point it would also involve re-compositing every effects shot in the movie. Doug

LucasFilms says no Star Wars on BD or HD DVD in the near future.

I think there is still some debate if episode 4 even exists on film in a transferable state. The original camera neg is supposedly all but gone at this point. It's possible that a decent quality Technicolor print could be found in England (as far as I know this is the only place that had...

Star Wars was actually released more than twice on laserdisc. There was the original pan and scan laserdisc release i believe in 1982. It was released at the same time on RCA's Discovision system. Then there was another repackaged release when all three original films were put out on laserdisc...

No Lucasfilm owns all six films. Fox only has the right to distribute them for the next 10 years I believe. Doug

LucasFilms says no Star Wars on BD or HD DVD in the near future.

Well these are the major projects that Lucasfilm is working on at the moment. I know Lucas himself is also working on some films that would be more experimental like the kinds of things he was doing in college. I don't know how wide a release something like that might get. Doug

LucasFilms says no Star Wars on BD or HD DVD in the near future.

I think at the moment Lucas is busy with the 2 or 3 Star Wars TV shows he is working on. There are rumors of Star Wars TV movies or a mini series too. Doug

There was talk before the first prequels were released that Lucas might take them to another studio because the Fox contract was up. I don't know how seriously he considered that if at all. He doesn't just own a part of ILM and Skywalker Sound, he owns them out right. They are not publicly...

LucasFilms says no Star Wars on BD or HD DVD in the near future.

Lucasfilm has the clout to dictate what formats these films will be released on no matter who is releasing them. They could tell fox to release on both formats and it would happen. Obviously they are dictating NO high def format at this point. Doug
