2004 Major League Baseball Season Discussion

As Lew has told us many times already, it's only April. I don't see the Marlins being dominated by the Braves the rest of this year, they still have some of the same players that were on the teams that always played the Braves tough, which is something the Marlins have done their entire history...

Thank you Captain Obvious. ;) Here's another one for you, George Steinbrenner owns this team and they have lost 5 out of 6 games to the Red Sox who are missing two of their starting players. Their starting infield the other day consisted of backups (Dave McCarty, Cesar Crespo, Pokey Reese...

ARod looks good at third, he's adapting nicely. Joe Torre should change his lineup and put Jason Giambi in the 2 slot. He wasn't picked up to be a Walk machine (16 as opposed to 11 hits). He's hitting just above .200 but has an OBP over .400, certainly not cleanup material right now, and he...

I wasn't putting him on Lowell's level, as a Major Leaguer, but he seems like an example of the Yankees' lack of patience with younger players. I remember Ledee's performance at the end of the '98 season and in the postseason and he still had to fight for a starting job the following season. He...

They won 8-7. That's 8 straight wins vs. the Phils dating back to last year. They've now won 17 out of the last 19 against them. Mike Lowell, former Yankee farmhand, player he was traded for? Scott Brosius, enjoying his 3rd year of retirement. Players received from the Marlins in exchange for...

2004 Major League Baseball Season Discussion

I think ARod is trying to hit five-run homers right now. I don't feel he's crumbling under the pressure, he's trying to play up to the pressure and that could be just as bad. He looks like he's adapting to 3rd base very nicely, that throwing error is the exception, not the rule. The Yankees as a...

Bill, I was really being sarcastic in reference to Andy Pettitte being a front runner in the Cy Young voting, it's more of the Yankee announcers "gushing" about Pettitte. 21 victories will almost always get you a vote or two, usually more.

It's nobody and nothing specific Phil (even though I find it hard to listen to Michael Kay and Suzyn Waldman criticize players), it's just a pet peeve of mine when the Yankee announcers praise Andy Pettitte for a "gutsy" performance after he went 5 innings giving up 5 runs only to have the...

Maybe you should tell the New York announcers that.

Andy Pettitte won 21 games last year also (with a 4.02 ERA) but he was considered a front runner for the Cy Young. In fact, he's only posted an ERA under 3.00 once and under 3.50 twice. Pettitte's numbers aren't much different than Ortiz'. Is there a New York bias? :D

Tampa Bay (tied with Boston), Detroit and Cincinnati are all in first place in their respective divisions while Seattle, Philadelphia and Chicago (Cubs) are all in last, who says there's no parity in baseball? :D
