I'm with Dome on this one 100%. I think it's something like #1) FOTR:EE #2) FOTR TE somewhere between #3-6 - not decided yet) ROTK .... #15ish or so) TTT I will say, I sacrificed about $100 worth of pay (I was out of vacation time), and $50 in tickets for me and my fiancee, and a...

My prediction: the only thing that will compete with ROTK for Best Pic/Best Director/etc will be something dynamically opposite to ROTK (like the aforementioned Sofia Coppola - Lost in Translation, or Eastwood's Mystic River perhaps?).

In reference to the Gandalf Mines of Moria poster and the Sam poster above - I have the Mines of Moria poster - as far as I knew, it was a Newline store exclusive (those of us on the mailing list voted on different versions of it prior to release). I've got the Mines of Moria one...I'm fairly...

I thought of it, but discounted it after a few moments. As far as the rapid aging, that seemed to be something that PJ & Co threw in - Bilbo just starts aging normally again once he doesn't have the ring any more. In the movie, it's rapidly compressed aging because the time in the movie is...

Patrick, on the Heavenly Creatures reference, you mean the Smeagol/Deagol scenes, right? I agree. After watching the other 2 EEs on Trilogy Tuesday, I seemed to notice a LACK of digital color grading on the Smeagol/Deagol scene at the beginning - it was very bright. Like it didn't have any of...

As far as why Frodo leaves at the end, my fiancee (a non-book reader) didn't quite get it, either. She did get the bit about not being the same, but didn't really get that it was so bad that Frodo had to leave. So there was, perhaps, a weakness here. A bit more showing of Frodo's changes would...

Thanks for the confirmation Richard, that's exactly what I was talking about. I took the running away as an alternate version of this scene.

Yeah, I got sick of reading sexual subtext in all of the 'negative' (less than A-) reviews. At least Ebert was actually trying to make legitimate points. Anybody's review that stoops to lame sexual subtext is promptly ignored by me.

To reply to a comment from the previous post, I think that Frodo's ability to run when he could no longer walk before came from his desire to get away from Gollum, who was trying to take the ring. If I recall, in the books, whenever someone went to take the ring, it resulted in a surge of energy...

There were some problems that could use fleshing out by the DVD, but I think some of them are excusable to non-book readers by leaving it mysterious. How did Denethor know stuff he shouldn't know? Leaves some mystery to it. I like movies like this anyway, but I know some people like things being...

You know, I thought I found a decent less-than-gushing review without sexuality comments again, but no! (From the village voice) Ebert is the only one so far to have negative points that aren't tinged with this.

Most of the less-than-stellar reviews have crap like this in them (Toronto Globe and Mail): Another guy called all the staves, towers, and swords "homoerotic imagery". For god's sake!! I thought the Eye of Sauron looked like....hmmm.....an EYE???!

Got back from Trilogy Tuesday - what a great, wonderful achievement. I was dissapointed with TTT, but not so with ROTK. Changes were made, but not major thematic or character changes, like TTT I miss some of the stuff that was excised for the DVD, but it still kicked ass anyway. The ending...
