I just pledged this new game kickstarter at the Future CEO level. I saw it at PAX U last December and was immediately taken with its aesthetic and theme. The overall gameplay is worker placement with some tweaks recent games use to improve the form. And following the creators on Facebook I saw...
We took a look. Raccoon Tycoon is available. I don’t know if it’s any good, but it was new and people were demo’ing it at UKGE last weekend.
But we’re remaining conservative on new purchases so not buying anything in this sale.
Star Wars Love Letter
Got a couple quick plays. Love Letter is a decent little card game, I probably own, and never play, it. This is a fun Star Wars themed variant. But it’s still basically Love Letter.

We had two weeks of Paris and London before, so couldn’t do big empty luggage for games.
But games are all available everywhere so not really a big deal. :)
UKGE
First time to a games expo. Some tension between me wanting to play demos and my wife wanting to find Instagram friends and have me take photos. :)
I’m taking a coffee break, and get out of the noise for a bit.
Demo’d Sea Salt & Paper, a nice little French card-collecting game. It plays...
We pulled Parks out last night. And found we’d not played it since Winter 2021! Parks is a really nice little game for 2-4 players.
And some Hues and Clues over NYE.
We’re playing MyCity, a legacy polyominal game. It was 50% off during B&N year end sales, so I grabbed it knowing it was recommended.
While this is the third legacy style game I’ve played, I’d consider it the first I’ve played that’s really “legacy” where I’m permanently changing my game board...
We haven’t mixed Asia in with the rest of the game and are playing it as a straight, two-player, no-nectar standalone game. Two games so far, and I like it. The new birds are interesting. The Duet mode changes up two player: end of round goals are more complex and I think more interesting...
Whoa! I've never seen the Starfarers Catan!
I've got a bunch of expansions from circa 1995 - 2005, but they've hardly been played. We get a little Catan in with the family over Christmas. But Catan is passe amongst regular euro-gamers and never gets played these days.
We still buy some games, but have slowed down a lot. We have more games than play time; pandemic really upset this further. So we're trying not to buy beyond what we play.
Similar to how I attempt to do buying movies / discs these days.
After 2 ½ years of missing our weekly gaming group due to the pandemic, I need to figure out how to get back to it. I could go back to the group now. But my Saturday routine is completely changed from 2019 and I haven’t worked out how to fit all-day gaming back in with everything else I replaced...
We’ve been playing Viticulture lately. We got the Tuscany expansion and have been going through the Worker cards.
We also pulled Suburbia out to finish through its expansions. We got the big box with all the expansions last year.
We played through Harry Potter as a foursome with friends. We really liked it. It’s the only co-op game I’ve played that I’ve fully enjoyed.
We’ve bought MBOM but haven’t started it yet.
Been playing Red Rising again this weekend. It's not everything I'd hoped for. But it's a fun game and it gets better and more casual the more you play. It's got a steep learning curve, which is a tough go for what's really a lightweight game. And while it is criticized for being strongly...
It was Settlers of Catan, which got shortened to Settlers. It was less often shortened to Catan. So now, it's not natural for me to just call it Catan.
But I've been playing since maybe 1997 -- I was introduced possibly when in it debuted in the US.
