Mikah, this is a whole new HD film-digital transfer and outshines the previous R1 DVD in every regard (that was an old laserdisc-master ported over for DVD).

I saw it in the theater at age 11 and loved it. :D So, has anyone compared the PQ to the British DVD (not the French)? DVDBeaver...they should post a comparison of all 16x9 versions... I've got the British SE DVD and am wondering if the PQ of the theatrical version is worth the...

The cropping of the already-cropped extended cut is about the most idiotic thing I've ever seen a studio do (Remember the flack that WB got when they cropped the already-cropped Ben-Hur to "fake" the 65mm aspect ratio from a 35mm print? Imagine taking a 4x3 PS version of a 2.35:1 movie and then...

Re-read the blurb...remain calm (I knew it)...these are just DELETED SCENES...which, while nice to have, don't change my world when watching the film. At first it sounded like the "alternate ending" would be...well...and [i]alternate ending![/b] :frowning:

Since Universal will support Blu-ray, I really *am* tempted to wait (I've vowed to support Blu-ray and boycott HD DVD if no format unification can be reached) especially given that I've got a nice 16x9 R2 version...though I'm certain the image could be improved upon with this new R1 disc...we'll...

The flipper-thing ticks me off. Why not a 2-disc release? I'd pay the premium. I hope that the music-cues are improved in the extended cut...but at this point just to have the original in 16x9 DTS is good enough for me. Then again...there's Blu ray... :D :D :D

the current 4x3 lbx non-anamorphic Dune is much worse...in regards to detail and everything else. So far, the R2 16x9 PAL version *is* the best DVD version available...but still soft compared to what a new state-of-the-art film-tape HD transfer could afford. BTW, the zoom mode on the BenQ...

On my projector the R2 version is very nice...but very soft and lacking the "snap" of modern HD film-tape transfers even with other films from this era. I'm assuming that the 35mm print has much more detail/sharpness available that the R2 DVD isn't letting through...I'm hoping that the new R1...

I'd much prefer 2-discs...I hate DVD 19 can't wait to see what happens...*anything* will be better than what we have now (and my R2 SE version is nothing to brag about in terms of PQ though it does look better than the non-16x9 current R1 version...)
